What Ken said, with that kind of power projection
available the Generals would never have launched
the invasion, which was done in an attempt to
distract the populace.

Back in 2008 ( :o ) I did some profiles for a Vought-HSA Paladin, which was a British-ized Crusader with a raised cockpit, enlarged intake and Spey engine (the Spey was looked at IRL for an RN version of the Two-sader).

Profiles and backstory on this thread, posts #86, #89, #110 and #116:

(Not sure if the pics will re-post 'cos they've been Boto-Phucked, at least on my screen... :banghead: )

Yep. An irony I've pointed to several times is that if the CVA-01 carriers had been built, they'd almost certainly have prevented the Falklands War, but they'd never have been credited with it, since that war was regarded as so unlikely pre-1982.

Which is why I've said for decades that it was Denis Healy's fault that the Falkands happened at all...

Skyflash likely needs a better radar that a typical F-8 radar, which was a pretty basic ranging set.  Maybe a little nose surgery to give her a bigger dish, but not much room to work with for the dish and the associated black boxes, and might ruin the looks.  The never ordered Crusader III would have had a larger radar, fire control system and be Sparrow capable.

Matra R.530 was carried by French Naval F-8's and did have semi active radar and IR versions.....but that would require cooperation from....the French.....

Sidewinder and guns might be a more realistic, but limited, loadout.

It could work in wiff world though? The one I am building now has just got sidewinders fitted, and drop tanks, but the next one could be toting skyflash

If an F-8-sized radar can illuminate for R-530 then it can illuminate for Skyflash. The only limitation might be that you can't exploit the full range of the missile due to the power limitations of the radar.

I'm not a radar expert at all so forgive this question. In an engagement close enough to the ships could their radar guide a Sparrow or similar? I'm sure there were frequency and range issues.

It would not be practical for a ship to do that. It's not just frequency and range that would be issues, there would be several other technical problems with doing that. Ships do carry the RIM-7 Sea Sparrow to defend itself as a point defence missile but that's the nearest practical use a ship has with a Sparrow missile.

Dennis Healey is responsible for a lot more than just that.

Chris, if you do decide to go to Bolton, I have an assembled and painted Crusader that's yours if you want it.  You may need to find a canopy for it though.

Me too, I must have missed it for some reason. :(

I was busy being a 'consultant' for my old employers that year, perhaps that's the reason.
