I took another shot at painting this beast today. Silly putty and masking tape for the gunship grey.

Take a close look at the placement of the silly putty. I made a "worm" and placed it where I wanted the color line to be and covered other complicated surfaces with putty squeezed flat. The rest was covered with tape as you see.

Then I began to take the silly putty and tape off. Surprise!

What the f........?
Everywhere the silly putty touched the Mission Model paint it turned to that much darker shade. Where it touched the Model Master it was fine. Both paints had dried over 24 hours.
If I were going for a crazy random camo pattern that was unseeable until I pulled the masking off this would be great. Now I get to let this dry for the whole weekend because we are going out of town and try the dark ghost grey again. I guess I won't use silly putty.
I don't know what it is about me and paint but this is ridiculous.

I'll bet there's some sort of solvent or something like that which burned the paint making it darker ..it's definitely a chemical reaction that caused that .

The funny thing is..that looks really good actually 🤣 😄
It's like the different colours of the waves moving

Take a look at Ammos or AK Interactives camouflage elastic putty..it will not lift or change any paints colour ..leaves zero residue .
I've used it multiple times and it's brilliant stuff and super easy to use 😀
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

The color is actually pretty good. I'd use if it would match the decals!
I always say the magic of organic chemistry!
I'll look into the camo putty.
Maybe I should put silly putty on the rest of the dark ghost grey and turn it all the same color.

Apart from being a annoying issue the more I look at the results the more it's looking like a bloody complicated paint job and a bloody good at that .

Looks good.

Could be one of those fortuitous "errors" which looks great but prove vey hard to replicate in a controlled manner.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

If I wanted to do that again I would have to put the silly putty in small pieces just where I want the dark color and see what happens.

As the others wrote, it's a very interesting result. The tailplane top is perfect, it looks made on purpose. Of course, it's annoying that your paint job has been so modified.
I hadn't yet written in this topic, but your build is very clever. Often jet seaplanes have something unplausible, but yours has come out very well.
And thanks to Wardukw for the AK putty suggestion.   I didn't know the product, will have to try it.
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

I'm going to try it too. The silly putty I have has too much paint in it now anyway.
I placed silly putty back on the build to turn all the dark ghost grey to the same color. It didn't have much color difference from the light ghost grey anyway. Nothing to lose!
