If I spray yellow..the undercoat will be white  ..once the white is solid the yellow will pop.
Spray yellow as a undercoat if ya want gold to pop big-time.

It's all unmasked now, and there's a fair amount of creep, darn it.

This despite my conscientious varnishing of the masking edges etc. I'll be doing some of the panels in different silvers later anyway, so that should help, plus a little weathering (or watering....) down near the chines as I'm sure that High Speed Silver wouldn't have lasted too long with the student pilots making their early water landings..... 

And the main painting's all done. It needs a bit of touching up here and there, and as I've done all the rescribing now it's ready for the decals. 

There's still the matter of the beaching gear and the floats, but they can be left till a bit later.

I've tidied it up a bit now, and contrast painted a few panels, just to show they ARE different, and 'smoked' the area behind the exhausts a bit. Some decals will go on today, yeaaaaah! 

I've started work on fitting the wing floats to the Shrimp T3, one retracted and one down, as discussed earlier. The detracted one (Is there such a word?) is VERY fragile, the leg itself has two very narrow struts and they need some re-enforcement so they don't bend or break. I think superglue will have to come into play.

But the retracted one won't fit at all, it's larger than the hole in the wing! And neither will its door fit either, a bit of a pain. I've cut down the door and it's glued in place, but I think I'll have to cut the float in half again and thin each half down. It'd be a bit easier than trying to a) file the curved faces of the  float or b) cutting and filing the hole in the wing to a larger size, specially as it's already painted!

I've yet to source the RAF fitters looking bewildered at the retracted float too.............

I think the required word is either "deployed"  or "extended".  I'm VERY much looking forward to seeing the finished item  however we describe the state of the floats!

Had a bit of a disaster on the Shrimp's decals today.

After spending hours researching a suitable batch of serials for the F2 fighters and the T3 trainers I mentioned in the backstory, AND inventing an OCU for the trainers to be part of, I drew up some decals for this T3. Then I found I'd left my spray varnish at home, so thought I'd brush seal them with the Klear I had with me.

WRONG! 

It smeared them all so that's it for the Shrimp build till I get home next week.

I did rather like my idea of the OCU's crest though 



There really was a 235 OCU as well, and it trained flying boat pilots too, but it didn't have a badge, and later morphed into the boring sounding 'Flying Boat Training Squadron'.

The only other thing you could do is to infra-red dry the ink Kit, then you would be able to brush on the varnish. My dad used to work on methods of drying ink that way after he left De Havilland Propellors and before he became a teacher.

It's got its wheels on now, or its beaching gear anyway, but no decals till next week.

All the construction, PSR and paintworks done on the Shrimp now, just the decals are missing, and I may put some of the kit decals on later, but it needs my extra, home printed ones before it's complete.



Here's the whole assembly, note the extended wings, tail and rudder too. I also chopped the exhaust outlets back a bit to increase their diameter. The back story, still being written, has the two puny Beryl engines replaced by one hefty Sapphire for the production Shrimps, and I figure that while that MASSIVE intake would be large enough, the original exhausts wouldn't be.

I've also built it with one float deployed and the other retracted, just because I could, and I'm hoping to find some RAF figures looking at them with rather bewidered looks.
