Quote from: JoeP on January 28, 2024, 04:29:23 AMStranger were nuclear powered airplanes.

I met an engineer who worked on the Nuclear powered airplane project. It used a specially modified B-36 with an on-board reactor.

Although the reactor was never used to power the aircraft, it was a working device. This engineer mentioned that the crew cabin was heavily shielded and one constant problem was that the wiring insulation on cables near the reactor kept failing, due to the radiation.

Another insane project was Project Pluto.

They also had to fly with a transport full of paratroops trailing them so that if the B-36N crashed, they could immediately establish a safety cordon around it.

Foe example, an 80' Elco boat, built of Kevlar (1965)-reinforced glass fibre with trip pump jets (or refitted WWII build).  One twin .50, one twin Mk-19 AGL (1968), twin Oerlikion 20mm cannon, etc.

Or two M-163 Vulcan cannon turrets with the radar removed fore and aft, and two M-134 miniguns on swivel mounts, one on each beam...

Or go Full Metal OverKill !

Although, admittedly, this started out as an Airfix 1/72 S-10 class Schnellboot not a MTB.

This started out as a 1/72 Airfix Vosper 73' MTB;

Okay, they're scale-o-rama'd, but they're still WhIF 1960's-1970's builds.

Nuclear powered aircraft?
Did that for the Prototype GB.  There's a lot of discussion on the subject in the thread.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

That is the later Osa2 with the tubular missile launchers, but still. For some reason, the more angular launchers of Osa1 appeal to me.

They did the OSA 1, too - first, in fact (both Merit & I Love Kit).

Not exactly low cost kits  :o  But at 1:72 they should be about 50cm long, and there's lots of parts.

Over kill is often very understated .

Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Well, the Royal Australian Marines follow the theory that "Overkill is underrated".

An idea just hit the squishy bit and it's one I'm liking.
M48 tank in Australian service in Vietnam with a 20pdr main gun instead of the 90mm cause I think it will look better .
I'll cover it in crew gear and have this battered and beaten from bush bashing.

The last M48 I built was donkeys yes ago and it was Tamiyas offering which in most aspects isn't a good model...ive had a Dragon M48 for ages now ..I think it's doesn't have tracks..not a problem 😏
I've got a set of AFV Club ones from a M88  and there individualtrack links too   ;D
