Quote from: PR19_Kit on January 27, 2024, 05:13:35 AMThe 1/72 scale Stalwarts have umpteen parts for their suspension too, and trying to get all six wheels on the ground at once is quite a problem.

I'm still struggling with my ACE 1/72 Stalwart. It makes the over-engineered Bronco/Hobby Boss/Gekko kits look like a snap fit.

Having had a think on this (and build that SAAB 29 Tunnan with the lad) it is a bit annoying that there aren't more "simple" kit these days. The younglings need rather substantial progress in the beginning, not to lose interest.
Next kit will probably be an old Frog Canberra B(I).8, and most of you know how complicated that is..

You say that but Airfix do have a fair range of Quickbuild kits out now to entice newbies into the hobby. Revell have their Easy Click system. HobbyBoss kits are known for being quite simple with minimal but well detailed parts. There's a whole world of simple build wargaming vehicles and aircraft which do look good with some painting work.

The problem is being able to find any of these now that model shops are fading out. You certainly won't find any model kits in the big toy shops nowadays. You have to go to the back of Hobbycraft past all the knitting and sewing and painting stuff.

We have successfully tried a HobbyBoss Spitfire, but in all fairness, I don't think we found that to be much easier than the Airfix standard Mustang. As for the Revell and Airfix click-together-kits - I have yet to find a consequent scale in Airfix's offers, and the Revell F-4E - which admittedly is the only of Revells issues I've seen - is hideous!

Yes, I'm whining, but
a) I think I have a point!, and
b) I am old enough be allowed to..

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

It's a jump to the left.  And THEN a step to the right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

This pop culture reference goes way above my head, and accordingly, I'll just resort to the Old Male SOP - grumpily defending whatever position I feel is currently valid. But that might change on a daily basis.
