Yikes! What happened to the poor girl in photo 2? Or do they all look like that at the end of a deployment?

Or is that a former Soviet-era unit finally putting out to sea?

Ya almost get the impression that pic 2 has been recovered from the bottom and that huge panel on the side looks like a repair patch .

Very cool. love the idea of this kind of boat ! And the thing looks absolutely amazing. I'd like to see it all weathered and beat up.

Can't be the Kursk, they lopped off the entire bow... Haven't heard of any others lost, but then would we?

As it's a RN Astute-class I doubt she's been recovered from anywhere, but she's not the first Astute I've seen that looks like that after a long patrol/deployment.

I've gone for a clean look somewhere between image 1 & image 3.

Ah, fair enough then.

Is that a common look for the end of a patrol? Or do they need better quality control for the coatings? Or with all the temperature changes and salt water, would anything stand up long term?
