This is because children (we) were built tougher & smarter, back then, than the modern versions & were sensible enough to minimise the risk of hurting ourselves (well, a bit) &, if we didn't, it was a learning experience!

And Mum was usually at home to administer plasters, hugs and sympathy.

There is a bigger performance difference because of condition and maintenance IMO.  Especially when people have been bouncing them over the kerbs like I was.  The trick is to pay attention to which cart does best in the first session and then jump into it before anyone else in the second.
These were underpowered though.  They were hitting the rev limiter in a couple of locations on the circuit.  Topped out at 80km/h according to the blokes running the place.
The heatstroke was minor and dealt with by ice water and ice packs.  I was over it in about an hour and then drove home.
Today, not content with yesterdays attempt to harm myself I fell off by e-bike (wet road, corner, excessive speed) and now have sore ribs.
Not my week.

Sounds similar to mine and it's just the start of it

More fun and games here in the PDRV.  Thunderstorms rolled across the state on Tuesday knocking out power.
I was sitting in my shed putting the weapons load into the Blue Harrier when at exactly 3pm it suddenly went dark.  I finished off using the head torch I use when rigging the Sea Witch.
It's now 9pm Wednesday.  We have minimal power with intermittent drop outs.  My neighbour (formally electrical health and safety supervisor at the local steel works) tells me we are only getting about half the voltage we should be.
What this means is nothing with a motor will run (exhaust fans for example), no fluorescent lights, no oven, toaster, kettle, or microwave.  But we do have TV. internet, any light with an LED globe, and the fridge (surprisingly as surely the compressor has a motor in it).

So we just had a romantic valentines day candlelit dinner.   ;D

And literally as I hit Post the power came back on 100%.

Woohoo!  We can use the dishwasher!

I thought that'd be you ?

Been reading about your storm/power cuts in this morning's I Newspaper, along with the bushfires in the west of the state. Didn't realise the power outs were that bad.

Six 500kV transmission towers came down West of here at Anakie*.  They look like a giant hand just squished them.

*Should be familiar to anyone who has watched Mad Max.  A sign for "Anakie Road" is prominent near the beginning of the movie.

Yup, I've had a couple of Aussie girlfriends in my time   ;)

Picked back up a 1/72 Bandai Space Battleship Yamato Cosmo Falcon (a single seat space fighter) I started a while back and then put down.
It has two engines.  Each engine has what looks like a 2D thrust vectoring nozzle.  Each nozzle has eleven parts...

It's engineered like one of their Gundam kits.  Lots of small parts which pretty much snap together, moulded in different coloured styrene so you almost don't have to paint it (unless you are whiffing it).

These sort of kits (I include Gundams and also the Bandai Star Wars kits like the Y and B Wings I have in the stash) tend to have good fit and build up well but they do require a different frame of mind to a "normal" kit like an Airfix Spitfire (for example).  I find they can respond best to painting parts before assembly rather than gluing them together and then painting.  You do need to have the paint scheme planned beforehand.  Although, being snap together it is possible to build them without glue and then carefully dismantle them to paint.

This is what 11 piece 2D vectored thrust nozzles look like.
