Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Zvezda do a 1/144 Be-200 (I have one in the stash).
A Model do a 1/72 example with fibreglass wings (I don't have one of them).

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Me too, and a few Flight Sim 'models' too.

I'm liking the look of this aquatic A-10.

I was experimenting with some weathering on this build as the paint job has so many flaws it ridiculous. Anything would make it look better. Anyway, I sprayed some thinned flat black down the sides to simulate the smoke from the 30mm gun. It looked good going on but when it dried almost the entire side below the cockpit was black. Looks like less is more in this case. No loss. Need to add the weapons and unmask the canopy and I think this will be done!!  ;D

For "smoke effects" I use pure IPA then dip my stirrer into a pot of mixed dark grey (black is too dark), tap off the excess & swizzle the stirrer in the IPA. That's it. Then I flick backwards from near the gun muzzles a few times using very little paint mix & very little airflow. This allows you to build the colour up slowly. I will then repeat the process with some lighter grey (usually neutral grey - unless that's part of the aircraft's paint scheme). Somewhere I will run a little bit of either Dark Earth or Dark Brown (same mixing technique) over it, as gunsmoke seems to have a slightly brown tinge to it.

I use the same technique for exhaust smoke staining but I run the airbrush back over where the airflow would take the smoke before flicking it back at the end - & I don't use the brown..

I rub on Tamiya black weathering powder with a cotton bud.  I'm too scared i'll f**k up what i've already done to try using my airbrush.

Surprisingly, I'm more likely to screw that up than the airbrush version (although it did take a couple of goes to get the general thinner:paint mix just right).

The Tamiya weathering powder also wipes off with a spit moistened cotton bud.

Thanks everyone! The black smoke treatment was looking good then I just got carried away. From the pictures I've seen of the A-10 in action the smoke stains are pretty much just black. Other guns may vary! You can still see areas where I used the graphite and it looks pretty good. I zapped a little around the engine exhaust and on the tail and under the horizontal stabilizers too. I controlled myself and didn't go nuts with it. Pics will be up soon.

Here's the pics I promised. Not a contest entry by any means but it turned out ok. The weathering experiment was very educational for me.

I hope you all enjoy it!
