I found this stuff to be my ideal putty, as it can be shaped and sanded down so easily, and it is or was easy to apply. So now its vanished of the face of the earth, what else is there that is as near as damn it the same as, and available in the UK?. The Revell plasto is too wet, and eats into the styrene a bit too fiercely for my liking, valejo is just garbage, and MIG putty is like spreading margarine, and comes off twice as easy as it went on. MR Hobby white putty is ok for very fine work, but gets messy very quickly. Someone bring back squadron putty please.

I'm a fan of Squadron as well Chris. With the difficulty of replenishing my stock I've gone back to using Humbrol for larger jobs.

I still use Milliput for major jobs and PP Putty for seams etc that don't require anything "structural".

Thankyou Chris, is the Humbrol stuff a similar consistency, as  I have 4 different makes of putty, all of which is too gooey, the squadron stuff is a lot more manageable.

The tube I'm using has been in the drawer for a long time Chris,. I've no idea if the current stuff is of the same formulae or not.

Ah, ok. Thanks Chris.

Chris one thing I have just remembered is that I did have to mix the contents of the Humbrol tube by "pumping" a cocktail stick up and down for a fair bit when I cut through the film at the top of the tube. All the acetone thinner appeared to have separated, but that may have been because it had been in a drawer for a while.

Just checked and there's no date on the tube. They do talk about using thin layers so as to avoid any aggressive  reaction though.

The Squadron putties are just repackaged putty/fillers. Try one of the fillers used for auto body work repair. I like the AK Interactive putties. They dry quickly and are easy to remove with isopropyl (or any other alcohol) when dry or even water before they dry. Various acrylic stucco compounds work as well.

When does "old enough to know better" kick in?

I was going to pick the AK interactive stuff up instead of the MIG, wish I had done so now

I've found Takuya's closest to Squadron Green

I get on well with Mr Surfacer 500.  Gooey, but stays out, comes in a jar rather than a tube.  Easy to find online.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I use the Revell tube, and like Chris I noticed the more liquid stuff at the top of the tube; it's gotten a lot stiffer now (age may be a factor here, too).
I will try the stick stirring method and see if that works - and definitely with the new tube when I get it...

Mossie, what do/would you use to thin the Mr Surfacer? Thinking of when I'm getting to the end of the bottle... should I get some.

It's all very well people saying things like that but it would be helpful if we were also provided with definitive information about what exactly had been repackaged (brand names for example) rather than the usual general wave of the hand.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.
