It looks like the Boulton-Paul P.120 with those fat delta wings.

WB192 would fit an early Hawker Hunter around 1951-52, but the number was not issued. Which worked out for Wells-Brimtoy who created this cool looking toy!
It may have been their 192nd toy design for all we know. They were made in Walthamstow until the 1960s.

I hear people pay surprising amounts of money for old tin plate toys.

Old Wombat

They certainly do, especially if in pristine condition and in the original packaging. Must admit I can never quite see the pricing structure of either tinplate toys or old lead soldiers. However I suppose if someone wants something badly enough.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

A tinplate collector used to attend our Model Car Club meetings.  He once brought along a truck mounted excavator toy he had paid $17,000 for.  It was one of three remaining and the other two were in museums.

It's a Fat Man they are preparing to load ?
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

William Conrad.
William Conrad fat?
Back in 1976, he fit in a PIK-20 glider.

... there were rumours, though, that it took some effort to get him out???

Hmmm, I've been in one too, and I can imagine they'd have needed a giant shoehorn to lever him out! It's a pretty slim aeroplane!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model
