Ok so their Sea Lordships decide in the early 40's that the Sea Hurricane will ultimately do better (all things considered) with some further development: just what comes out of the end of the process?

thanks in advance

A Griffon powered Hurricane, with contra-props maybe?

And 4 cannon of course..............

Hunting pairs of Sea Hurricanes, perhaps.   One with the mark 2B  12 x .303 gun wing and the other with  40mm cannon pods and/or RP-3 solid head rocket projectiles.   One keeps the flak gun crew's heads down whilst the other knocks holes in the U-boat hull.

Or even a Python powered MEGA Hurricane post-war?

I believe there were some technical points that would have necessitated a new fuselage and a new wing.

So a further development of the aircraft such as was done with the Spitfire, the Hurricane III or something. As long as it looks like a Hurricane.

Right, there was a proposal for a Griffon powered Hurricane and several schemes were proposed 1939-1941, but these were discontinued once the Typhoon entered production.

There was also a proposal for a Hercules powered version during 1941. This was proposed incase of a shortage of Merlins.

Both of those are courtesy of Francis Masons "The Hawker Hurricane".

Courtesy of my own imagination, how about a Vulture engined one ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

There was also the proposal for a navalized Typhoon with foldable wings, IIRC. I guess that this would have been preferred to a Sea Hurricane, even an updated one, if the Lend Lease aircraft from Americe would not have become available in large numbers. I can hardly see a "future" for the 'Cane, due to its pre-war basis and technological level.

Certainly a folding wing and a later series Merlin as well.  I suppose a cut down rear fuselage and bubble canopy would be in the cards. I think the Lend Lease was very likely the ultimate block to a real world development.

Thanks gents for your thoughts.

A 60 Series two-speed/two-stage Merlin in place of the single-stage Merlin types used
on the Hurricane.

The war would've been over before they'd have been able to turn the Typhoon into a
successful naval aircraft.

Hence my Sea Tempest elsewhere 😉
