I have completed the cockpit and what I shall build of the Bombay (sic) at this stage and have glued all the little windows inside the fuselage.  I can almost join the fuse halves except I have to paint the tail wheel leg (unless it can be modified so it can be fitted later) and modify the belly turret so that the glazing can be fitted later.

I had a vague thought of accompanying the B17 with another aircraft from the same movie  - A faux FW-190 consisting of a T-6 in a WW2 Luftwaffe scheme.
Until I realised it wouldn't be a whiff as that is what they did in Where Eagles Dare (and I suspect in a number of other movies).

T-6's have been about everything in movies! 

What about a (Sea) Fury cosplaying as the Fw.190?

There were still a fair few of them knocking about when the (RW) Dam Busters movie was filmed.

What about using a Chipmunk as a Bf109?

D'oh!  I was focussing on radial engined low wing monoplanes to play an FW 190.  I didn't think about something to be an Me 109. 
Not sure if I have a Chipmunk but I do have a Hasegawa Mentor.  Which would actually be closer to the real thing than he usual Me 108.

Not everything in a whiff scenario has to be a whiff. The RAC Landrover in my Trackrover dio is 100% real world: the whiff is that it's three miles from the South Pole...

In fact, a bit of real-world well-known fakery can flummox people about the actual whiff. I have a plan to exploit this in the future...  

Being as it's an American film, presumably shot in California, you could do what was done in a couple
of other films and paint up a Mustang as a 109, or as some F8F Bearcats were still flying around at the
time do one up as a 190.

Good idea.  Put in the possible pile.  Would there have been many highback Mustangs still flying then?

Hoover Dam would have stood in for German dams plus filming being done over the Salton Sea.

Well they do...


...partially.

Ball turret, small fuselage windows, dorsal windows (the large panel behind the turret), and cockpit canopy are the same.
Fuselage gunners windows are different but the masks work well enough.
Tail gunners windows are simple enough to cut from tape.
Dorsal turret and Nose glazing are completely different, complex, and will get frames of painted tape.

PSR on the fuselage commences tomorrow.

The Academy B-17E, is just a B-17E, the B-17D
has the earlier small tail fuselage without the
power turrets and there's also a lot of differences
between the E, F and the G in terms of the forward upper turret, windows, waist gunner positions and tail guns.

As modelled by Monogram in their dual pylon racers kit. I've still got mine somewhere, a lovely kit.
