At the beginning of the sixties, owing to the "Wirtschaftswunderzeit" in Germany and the "Miracolo economico" in Italy, industry and trade in Europe had a rapid and quick upswing.
The classic railway line through Switzerland, the Gotthard, was overloaded, and was quickly necessary to find another one for a part of the freight traffic.
So the old Maloja line, hardly used after the flight of the Von Ryan's Express (see here also: https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=32877.0 ) was re-opened. The steep grades of the line required powerful locomotives, and as a stop-gap, following the example of the BLS swiss railway company (see https://www.marklinfan.net/ae88bls/Ae_88_BLS.html ), the italian Ferrovie dello Stato decided to use some old E 626 electric locos, surplus from the plain lines, to build a small series of articulated locos.
The 12 units builts were ready by 1965 and were used till 1976, when after long delays, the monster units E 10.4.10 were ready and took over the heavy freight trains.

While cutting, I thought that also a long rigid frame type would be nice:


and, of course, the remaining cabs could/will be used for a shoshunter (short shunter):

I managed to - at last - to complete this build, stalled for a little problem about how to fit the bellows between the 2 half units.





Now the loco is ready for heavy goods trains over the Maloja Pass line...when I have managed to advance with my layout...

Are the second four axles on each loco separate bogies or is it one four axled bogie? It looks as if they may be articulated themselves.

I don't remember the correct definition according to the rules, anyway there is a 2 axles bogie, 2 "fixed" axles, another bogie and repeat.

Truly functional of course. Two motors, the original ones.
If I decide to digitalize it, maybe I'll remove one of the motors.

I think that makes it a Bo-BoBo+BoBo-Bo under the UK system. I have NO idea what it would be in Italy.
