Underside painted.
Now to sort out the demarcation, mask the thing (have I mentioned I hate masking), and paint the topside.

A study of the destructions revealed a wobbly demarcation.  Hooray!  no need to mask.
I've brushed on two (wings, stabs and rudder) or one coats of Olive Drab lightened with Deck Tan.  This'll do as a base coat but I feel it needs more yellow in the mix.

Seen from here, it looks light grey. 

Phone camera under pure white energy saver light globe (one of those mini flouro things with the spiral tube) in an anglepoise lamp.  Too much Deck Tan TBH but it was never meant to be the final colour, just a stage along the way.

It's so bloody hard to get what you see in a picture or drawing and then make that real ..top marks to the folks who can .
Under lights even more annoying 😑
To my eyes that does look pretty sweet 😋 😍

Beige.  A good colour for faded desert camo uniforms on figures.

So I brushed on another coat.  This time faded with Deck Tan and Flat Yellow.  It's a closer match to what I want but still not there.
Three pictures, each under different lighting conditions with different backgrounds.  All taken with my phone camera.

On my bench under the low energy globe.  Same as above.

Nearly there now with the Olive Drab.  I thinned the it with just the Flat Yellow and semi-dry brushed it on to give a patchy faded appearance.
Control surfaces need a more faded shade as per (I think) Jon's comment above about their fabric fading faster than the metal wings and tails.

Interesting thought on getting that effect -- looks good.

 

I'm calling the OD done.  I semi-dry brushed the  control surfaces with and OD/yellow/tan mix - heavy on the yellow.
