At that price I'm not surprised!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Quote from: Dizzyfugu on May 25, 2024, 12:51:19 AMA Hasegawa 1:72 J7W Shinden; many moons ago I was able to get hands on a (recast from the original Hasegawa extra sprue) resin conversion set to turn it into a jet-powered J7W2 - but I have plans to take the conversion a step further an (also) modify the air intakes (which would stay the same narrow slits from the air-cooled original radial pusher engine) into something that rather looks like air ducts with a different shape.
I was thinking of doing the same with a 48th scale kit to Dizz...im still thinking of what intakes would look best .

Well, I am not certain yet, too. But the narrow slits and their retrofitted "extra ears" will have to go, and I will modify the flanks so that the "step" for the cooler intakes disappears. I think I'd prefer something Skyhawk-ish, with semi-circular openings and matching ducts that run over the wing roots and blend/taper into the hull, like a BAe Hawk, to feed the single central engine. Another option might be to switch propulsion to a pair of smaller axial flow engines, though, and skip the J7W2 conversion parts altogether, because the jet efflux does not convince me either - it's just the original opening (and hints of the radial engine inside!) with a central cone.

They just repurposed the tailpiece of J7W1 kit and changed the 12-blade cooling fan of the radial
engine into the "turbine" of the turbojet, there's no way to see the engine through the rear as it's
buried amidships.
The exhaust of the turbojet is not a very likely configuration as the intended engine, the Ne-130,
was only 850mm in diameter with a length of 3850mm and weight of 900kg. In comparison the
18-cylinder Mitsubishi Ka-43 was 1230mm in diameter, 2090mm in length and weight of 980kg.
But that mass is concentrated in the cylinders and crankcase, typical of a radial, rather than
throughout the length of the engine as in a turbojet, it wasn't going to be a drop fit and the exit
would be smaller in diameter than that of the Shinden.
Shinden engine installation: supercharger assembly; Ha-43 engine; cooling duct with extension
shaft running down the middle; cooling fan and propeller.

Ahhh A4 Skyhawk might be an idea for sure ...ive got 4 or 5 of those and 2 at least are wiffy fodder but one thing I'll modify is the back end..make look like a tail pipe of a good sized engine sticking out the back

Shorten the landing gear.  No need for those long stalky legs if there isn't a prop.
I've toyed with the idea of turning one of these round so its not a canard anymore.

Snagged an Art Model Ta 152H at a reasonable price.  That's likely to become another A using the wing from the C.  Possibly with the 30mm BFO cannons.

 Yes, this was one i'd been watching for a while, and i almost gave up on it because of the price but, the decal sheet is unique and i think the detail added by these decals makes a big difference on the finished model.
I already had one of the original release with the simpler decal sheet but the idea i have in mind for an OOB build really asks for these decals so i had to get one. This way i also have a spare kit for an idea i've had of a conventional take off and landing variant of the ASF-X with side-by side twin engines, swept back wings and another internal weapons bay in the belly where the lift fan is located with capacity for 4 staggered AIM-120 missiles or 2 JDAMS or 4 SDBs. ;)

It's got a superb outline but it is somewhat lacking in detail.  Product of it's time and a different mentality.

If you get an Eduard Mk IX, that should give you a lot of the little detail bits that should upgrade the Ventura kit (tailwheel and doors, main gear doors, cockpit bulkheads and instrument panel, plus gun barrels.). IIRC the decals are poor but that option is on a Freightdog sheet.

Good idea, and it would probably help
a little in connection to all of the shifting about of stuff that would be required for
the change from the piston to the turbojet
engine. Weight and balance would be very
different from the one to the other.

Impulse purchased one of these from Metro Hobbies in the city.

It was on sale and I had an extra 15% off thingo which brought the price down to roughly 10% of the same scale Bandai kit.  I'd still like one of them though but not at the current asking price.  The Revell kit is much simpler having no internal detail other than a relatively crude cockpit and only two figures  - Han and Chewie - but it still looks good.  box is huge but I managed to get it into the shed without any awkward questions being asked.
They call it the "Classic" Falcon meaning, AIUI, Ep IV to IX rather than Solo.

Delivered today from SuperHobby, a rather cheap kit, the Special Hobby 1/48 AH-1Q/S which cost around 20,50€ with postage... somehow seemed like a mistake in the listing of 16,22€, 2€ lower than the 1/72 kit is selling for but the price stood for over 5 days so i bought it for that price and also, with the client points i had accumulated i included PJ productions pilot figures set for Swedish fighters and another set of Apache helicopter crew and another 1/48 F-16 pilot with JHMCS.
