Quote from: The Rat on June 11, 2024, 04:15:32 PMThank you all, I'm just going to put some Kristal Klear in it, and if anyone asks, it's a camera bay.

I thought it was the in-flight toilet. You could flush it to accompany the bomb drop

The Cyber-Hobby XB-70 kit has the same hole in the belly which suggests it is for
a stand.

Looks like they sold pre-finished versions of the 1/200 kits, with stands: Vulcan, XB-70, XB-35/YB-49 etc. under the Dragon Wings Warbirds label.

I haven't seen that they ever sold the stand separately, which is kind of too bad as it's a nice looking piece.

I've read that they used the same molds that were used to turn out the die-cast versions. That would explain a few things.

The "diecast" versions are just the same plastic built-up and painted. While it's a similar process you can't use the
same exact moulds for plastic injection and for the zinc alloys generally used in the moulding of diecast models.
The liquid metal is much hotter than the softened semi-liquid polystyrene of a plastic kit.

The term "diecast" has become generic for any pre-finished model, regardless of material.

A lot of the larger companies use steel moulds for their plastic kit production. Most if not all the smaller companies don't, and that's why you get so much flash and soft detail as the mould gets older. They also have a much shorter life then steel moulds.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Yep, plus molten metal wears moulds more quickly. The moulding pressures are also greater.
The pressure on the plunger can vary from 5 to 35 MPa (700 to 5000 psi).

NARSES2

Yup, some of  the pressures are well up there
