What engine has it?

It looks like it's 'only' a V8 from the exhausts, and the original was a V12 or  V16 IIRC.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Types A to C had V16 engines. Type D got a 3 litre V12 after a 1938 change in Grand Prix rules. Apparently, hill climbs didn't have an engine size limit, so a V16 was still used there.

That is just SO-O-O impeccably Germanic Over-Engineering!

Interleaved wheels! Perfect for turning a simple tyre change into a half-day operation! ;D  ;D  ;D

The first idea was to show an all wheel steering system in operation, the Puma wheel tank and the sdkfz.222 got that .
But forget it  , that is so much work on each hub and with that trackwide it is nearly impossible to move the direction   .

I could be a 16 in 8 exhaust system   .

Looks as if it is a bit tight between the wheels and tyres. Is there room for any of them to turn? Or are they supposed to turn at all?

Yes ,  they can be controlled like a TANK .

But Off Road vehicles most have a HUGE turnaround space i can tell you ...

Maybe 4-5° angle are possible ,  the axles should be longer for more space .

Sometimes i think every Modell should be build twice .

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Also the D had a DeDion-type rear axle in
place of the swing arms, a slightly more rigid chassis, weighed more - the class weight had been increased from 750 to 850kg and a shorter wheelbase, 2.77m versus 2.908 and a greater overall length - 4.2m versus 3.9 for the Type C.

Would this wondrous machine be the fabled Auto Union "Sleipnir"  ?     Rumours of its existence  have occasionally surfaced, but you appear to  have  become the first person to accurately identify  this elusive  automobile!

In Norse mythology, Sleipnir is an eight-legged horse ridden by Odin.
