Quote from: Madhatter on May 27, 2024, 04:04:53 PMthanks guys - nah, it won't be done in 2 weeks sadly (I wish I could though!) I still have to install the fibers into the SD itself yet and that's a couple of months worth of work right there

Ok, there was that. Good point.
But we all know, bigger is better.

Are you sure you're not auditioning to work for ILM or WETA?

gosh - I just realised I haven't replied to anyone with some thanks - so thank you :)

An update will be a little bit later than expected as I have yet again found another thing to do that my ADHD brain won't let go of until its done. No wonder this has taken nearly 6 years so far.

Madhatter

hey all

Yes, this is still on going but it's really moving now towards finishing the SD itself. I have to install the lower hull fibers yet, but I am going to be making a start on that this week. Then it's the top half and that has a LOT of holes to fill. Damn my over enthusiastic drilling!

Well, that's it. Next update will see the lower half finished and wired in. Thanks for sticking around. I hope the extreme length of this project hasn't dulled the interest.

See you soon-ish

I met Si at Model Expo.  You wouldn't think he was insane from looking at him...

I'm really looking forward to seeing this in the dark with the lights on.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Brian, that's just the start. Mate, there is just soooo much to install  :o
Thanks Fred, was great to meet you too
I'll do the lights out thing when I  go to test them all. That's a nerve-racking thought  :o

I did some math here; I went through my rubbish bin and counted 21 discarded sheaths (wrapping) and there are 32 fibers per sheath, that equals 672 - less maybe 12(?) broken or split fibers. Let's say 660 fibers on the lower half.
This is what it looks like as of 5 minutes ago:

I'll have the last 2 sidewalls attached by this afternoon, and once they're in, I'll start the bundling them into a light source. I think I'm going to end up using a lot more LED's than I initially estimated - but that's my fault for not cutting the lengths longer. I won't make the same mistake up top.
IF I remember to do it, I'll try log exactly how many hours it'll take me to thread the top half. I won't even try to guess how long the bottom has taken me so far

Awesome work   Just the sheer patience with the drilling is mind boggling.

Some pretty serious clamping going on.. have trouble finding the 12 inch G Clamp  ;D

Madhatter

yeah - I'm dreading placing the top half onto the lower half. I can already foresee a lot of fitment issues. I'm really not sure how I'm going to do it - but I have plenty of time to figure it out. Might try find a couple of large G clamps @ Bunnings
