Quote from: zenrat on September 16, 2023, 03:16:31 AMI've got an A&A Mauler, albeit the late version.  What do you want to know?

Just the quality of the mouldings, soft detail, flash type of thing and the type of plastic really, some of their plastic can be that softish, shiny stuff.

Cheers

Right having got off my backside and looked at Scalemates it appears it's the old SIGA/Ace kit from the early 2000's. I've the late version of this in the stash, so it's not going to be much of an improvement on that. Yet another reason to defer purchase.

OK, so this is "in the box".  Nothing desprued yet, just taken out of the bags.

Plastic looks soft and feels slightly greasy.  I will definitely be washing the sprues on this one.
There are no location pins.
Plastic is quite thick on the fuselage halves and the wings.  No internal fuselage detail.
External detail is engraved but depth of panel lines is not consistent.
Detail is softish and slightly clunky.
There is minor flash but not huge amounts (i've seen worse, but then i've got Microace kits repopped from old LS moulds).  Some sprues are a bit fuzzy along the parting lines.  Perforated airbrake (I think that's what it is) is cleanly moulded.
Sprue gates could be smaller but again i've seen bigger.
Surfaces are not smooth.  Examination of wings and fuselage under lights shows tiny pits & lumps and fine scratches.
No immediately visible ejector pin or sink marks.
Individual prop blades.
Lots of weapons sprues including what I assume are HVARs which will all require mould separation lines sanding off.
Two PE frets.  Canopy masks.  Injection moulded canopy.

If, as you say, this is an old mould then I would guess that they didn't do much in the way of maintenance to the mould and just put it into use as was.

All in all a typical example of a short run kit.  Not as bad as some i've got but not the best either.  Of course the real test is how it all goes together.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Cheers mate

It almost certainly is the old SIGA/Ace kit which was fine for its time and I'll be keeping mine, but I was hoping for a new tool.

SIGA released the weapons sprues separately, apart from the HVAR's there's 3 torpedos if memory serves ? I have a least one of these boxings in the stash as well  ;D

Thanks again

Yes, three big fat torpedoes, bombs and rockets.

Or maybe even engine mounted. You could fire vertically at the targets during take-off then, VERY QRA!

Now there's a thought. Sparrows on the fuselage, sidewinders on the engine pods.
