Spent part of this morning changing the inks on my printer. Why is it you need a Phd in Engineering in order to do so ? In all fairness to Epsom the process was relatively painless, albeit time consuming, as long as you followed the instructions to the letter, which I did as this was my first time changing inks with this printer.

However when I went to print the document I needed a copy of I got the standard "we notice you are not using guenuine Epsom inks etc etc. Please click ok to proceed etc, etc". Haven't these companies got around to the fact that, in the UK at least, it's almost cheaper to buy a new printer than it is to buy a set of guenuine inks  :banghead:  I don't print that much nowadays and have been using the same retailer for my inks for years. Good inks, reliable source, 24 hour turnaround and half the price !

Anyway that's got that off my chest

Don't get me going on about printers and their inks!  :banghead:

Hewlett-Packard have just tried to outfit their printers with software that won't LET you print with non-HP' inks, but I think the Competition authorities shot them down. Certainly the EU told them to cancel the idea over there.

Progress, albeit slow, is being made with the 162 and 410, but in the meanwhile whilst waiting for glue/putty/primer to dry I've been working on the Tamiya 1/72 Zero. What a gorgeous little kit, so relaxing compared to some others I could name. Even the myrad of tiny cockpit parts all slot into place perfectly and with no hassel at all. Who ever designed this kit deserves a

I think I'll group the Tamiya kits in the stash together under the heading "when the going gets tough, pull one of these out"  ;D

Is this one a true Tamiya design?
IIRC more than a few of the Tamiya 1/72 military aircraft series (as I think they call them) were/are Italeri moulds.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I believe it is.  IIRC there aren't too many of the Italeri items in the Tamiya range.

I'm preaty sure it is, it's certainly like no Italeri kit I've ever seen. Comes with a separate information leaflet explaining all the different nuances of the various Zero "marks".

This is the kit I'm building https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/TA60780?result-token=nPC6L

I got mine years ago in Modelzone (long gone) for £19.99 which is the same price as Hannants have it listed at today  :o

Not modelling related but at school I had two history masters who gave me a love of the subject I've retained to this day. I was lucky that for O Level we did some European history as well as British and that opened my eyes some what.

Anyway after a watching a French TV drama set in the early 1900's a short while ago I thought I'd like to delve a little deeper into the Third Republic so I got a copy of "The Evolution of France Under the Third Republic" by Pierre De Coubertin in 1897, translated by Isabel Florence Hapgood at the University of California. Now as this was written in 1897 I now have to find a book covering the Republics later years, but none the less it will be fascinating to read a contemprary take of this crucial phase of French and European history

And yes this was the same Pierre De Coubertin who was co-founder of the International Olympics Committee  ;D

He picked the idea up from the "Much Wenlock Olympicks"  also known as the "Wenlock Olympian Games"  which began in 1850, founded by William Penny Brookes in 1850 as 'Wenlock Olympian Class' to provide "annual competitions in sports and the arts for people of every grade" – and so Wenlock Olympian Games was born. It continues today, centred around the town of Much Wenlock.   Pierre de Coubertin visited the Wenlock Olympian Society in 1890, which held a special festival in his honour. He was inspired by Dr Brookes and went on to establish the International Olympic Committee.   The mascot for the London 2012 Summer Olympics was named Wenlock after Much Wenlock where the Wenlock Olympian Society and its Games began. The 2012 Summer Paralympics mascot was named Mandeville in honour of Stoke Mandeville Hospital, where the Paralympian Games originated

A gold medal winner from the Much Wenlock games is, I have been told, Mary Beard the historian.   Her competition?  Home made soft toy, under 12 class!

Go ahead and buy a new printer then strip the old one for cool looking parts for whiffing. I stick to PS or ABS plastic parts as I can glue them easily. Polycarbonate is unglueable even with CA. If you're into powered stuff there are several electric motors to salvage too.

'Paris Police 1900' and the sequel 'Paris Police 1905', perchance?

Yup, excellent stuff and certainly piqued my interest

General PSR and remedying of cock-up's going on with the 162 and 410, but in the meantime I did some detail/interior painting on the Zeros.

Now my favourite enamels are those produced by Colourcoat and luckily I have a full set of their Japanese specific ones. I haven't built anything Japanese for a while and anything requiring Mitsubishi Cowl Blue-Black for even longer. So after lengthy shaking of the tin I went to prise the lid of with my trusty small screwdriver, type you get in expensive Christmas Crackers, and what happens ? The lid flys 2' at least into the air and I have splatters of paint everywhere. Didn't take that long to clear up as most was on the bench which doesn't need to be nice and clean anywhere, however when I went in the bathroom to wash my hands....... there are Cowl Blue-Black spots and dots all over my face, how they missed my specs is beyond me. Anyway I did managed to get them cleaned off after a while, but it did look as though I had some strange undiagnosed ailment for a fair while. Could of been fun explaning that to a steward at the Oval tomorrow  ;D
