Goggle tells me that there was a HobbyCraft kit: #1554 1/48 Seversky Racer, 1938 Bendix Trophy/Ecuador.
I've not found anything in 1/72, though.

And it appears there was the SEV-3 Amphibious version... could make an interesting conversion.

Except that the Hobbycraft kit with Cochran's markings is their "short-fuselage"
P-35 kit rather than their longer fuselage EP-106(J-9)/P-35A kit, which is what it should be in order to model Jackie's aircraft.

The SEV-3 is a very different aircraft and the conversion would be extensive. It's more involved than just the amphibious floats, which also pivoted in the vertical plane. Another factor with the SEV/P-35 etc. series is that some aircraft have the so-called "flat wing" with nil dihedral, other variants have dihedral. The series is rather convoluted.
;D

Ah, that would make sense - there's ample precedent for manufacturers reusing existing moulds, rather than doing the job properly.

With all that, I'm rather glad the amphibian is nowhere even near the list of 'possibles', then.

That's what is so frustrating about them putting Jackie's markings in the P-35 rather than the P-35A kit, they had the right plastic. Of course I get their logic, they wanted to offer folks the chance to do the "racers", but they weren't all the same. The SEV-DS Doolittle Special, built for Jimmy Doolittle and paid for by Shell, was a neat machine with a 9-cylinder Wright Cyclone.

Sloppy research, 'Close enough is good enough' and 'They'll never know the difference'-style "logic"...

QuoteDear friends,

when we had an event for the support of Ukraine, back in 2022, it was an unexpected success. A short time ago, a small Ukrainian modeling company contacted us, looking for assistance with a project that would serve the defense of their country, and we decided to prepare a similar event. And we hope that you, our customers, will help us again.

Starting August 12, 2024, we will give all our registered customers an additional 10% discount on all Special Hobby and CMK items (combined with your membership discount, you will save 20% in total).

The event will end on August 25, 2024.
Items included in the ongoing Summer Cleaning Sale are not part of the event.

From each kit or set sold, Special Hobby will give 20% to the support of the Ukrainian modeling company's efforts.

Thank you for your help

I do hope this is a new tool. Fromm - Azur do/did a B-10, but I've no idea if the toolings could be modified. Might only be one way to find out ?  ;)

PR19_Kit

It says in the blurb that it's never been kitted before.

But Scalemates says it kicked off as an Azur B-10 kit in 2020.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

That's what concerns me. I've got that Azur kit, suppose I could take a look at it and see how it builds ?

It is the Azur/Fromm plastic. The B-12 has Pratt & Whitney R-1690 Hornet engines, the B-10 has Wright R-1820 Cyclones. Ditto the export versions of the kit that were already released.
So, technically they are correct that a "B-12" hasn't been kitted previously.

Nick-named 'Brucey' in British service (or Jimmy Hill for footy fans)...
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Thanks Jon. After looking at my Azur/Fromm kit I thought it might just be that and a markings change. Looks like I'll be saving some money  ;D

Not suprising.
Both Azur and Fromm are part of the MPM/Special Hobby family of brand names.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.
