The Wooksta!

To be fair, I'm not starting any, just finishing off the three that have been stalled for ages.  Just got the primer on my 2TAF one today

Well I managed to sort out the problem with the wheel well sides. It's the instructions that are wrong. In the boxing that I have AZ 7553, take care with parts 13, 14, 19 and 20 which make up the sides of the wheel wells. As shown the parts listed as 13 and 14 are for the same side of the wheel wells, the leading edge of the wing side of the wheel well with parts 19 and 20 for the trailing edge side of the wheel wells. I think its the numbering of which part goes where inside the wing that is wrong rather than they layout of the parts that is wrong, but which part goes where is as guess. I hope that makes sense

Anyway, the result looks like this

Which looks much better than the previous attempt which looks like this

At least it's some progress.

Nice one Alastair.

I've made a note of that tip already.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

Not a problem Kit.

There I was studiously following the instructions and only removing the parts from the sprue/tree* as required and I missed the visual difference between the parts on the bench and the parts still attached to the sprue/tree*  :banghead:

Managed to get my proverbial finger out earlier today and glued the wings together. Might try a different method of fitting the wheel well walls on my next build by adding them to the roof rather than the underside of the wheel well.
I really need to get the instrument panel dry brushed and detail painted so I can get the fuselage half's together. Painting and installing the seat with belts might be a good idea to.

Partly to show that I have not stopped working on this build, here follows an in progress picture for your pleasure  ;D

The idea for the black foam inside the intake I have shamelessly pinched from Dizzyfugu  Certainly going to save a lot of painting in the area of the radiator.

The rod above the forward fuselage is the interior tubing for the propeller which is slightly too long for the distance between the cockpit and the front of the engine which is to help me make sure I get it to fit at the correct angle. The kit supplied rod to fit behind the front propeller has been left alone as it was not circular and I wanted something a little longer to help stop the propellers falling off the front of the aircraft easily during transit.

I've rushed glueing the fuselage half's together. End result is a nasty joint which I am attempting to improve but its taking a couple of goes to get it right and even then I am making such a mess of the joint that its difficult to tell if I am getting it right or not.  :banghead:

EEk that sucks. The foam is a good idea, and it's about time I put 2 and 2 together from all of Dizzy's builds !  :banghead:

The seam seems to be fixed. It took a few goes to sort and it still looked a bit of a mess but an application of filler which has now been sanded back and it looks much better. Next step is to add the vertical tail surfaces and to look at the radiator intake. I think I might replace the cross frame work with some plastic strip as it looks rather chunky with the kit parts in place. Should be easy to do  :-\

Time to drag this one back from the grave. I had forgotten that I was going to do this in American markings. Not a problem as I have ideas for another one of these as well.

Think I might find where I stored it and drag it out. This build though has had a little work on it now and again. The fuselage seams have been worked on and earlier today I introduced a couple of pins into the fuselage/wing joint to give the wings something to fit onto rather than there just being a butt joint.

Picture update tomorrow.

Slightly late with the pictures, but this is where I am with this build now

The wings have two sections of brass rod to help locate them and provide something more than a butt joint against the fuselage. The tail fin also has a length of brass rod to help anchor it in place. It's still on the first round of PSR for the wing joints so it still looks a mess, but it's progress.

Good to see another MB5 en route to completion Alastair.

Don't forget the trick with the main gear legs to get them to fit at the correct angle, and NOT the 90 degrees that AZ would have you do!

Sorry, forgot what the trick was   but I did know that they are not at 90o

You have to trim the top of the legs off, or open up the gear wells so that the legs will sit at the correct angle.

I posted a diagram of it for one of my MB5 builds, but I'm darned if I can find it now.  :banghead:

The guideline is the bottom of the semi-circular gear doors, which should be parallel to the ground when the aircraft is at idle.

I managed to get a few minutes at the bench last night. I made a couple of modifications which should "enhance" the look of the aircraft.
