This evening I did a little D.I.Y. in the bathroom seeing that it was over twenty-four hours since the grout had been applied. I checked the last patch where I need to add tiles as well as mounting points for the brackets to hold up a glass shelf. Then I thought I would check to see how the tiles I have to fit in that area will work around the shelf mounting points. Then I found that the tiles I had were too thick     
These tiles are a couple of millimetres too deep so I am going to have to find replacements tomorrow on my way home from work so I can fit them at the weekend. 
On the upside, I did fit the shower unit. 
I am going to have to take it down again later and add filler to the top mounting point to help hold it in place better but that's not too much of a problem. Definitely getting there

Bathrooms. Tons of work in a little tiny place. I about meet myself every time I turn around in our bathroom.

I might have mentioned this, but we had a water leak in an adjacent room (to the main bathroom) last year, meaning the insurance took care of a total blow-out of the entire thing. Being almost 10 m², the cost once completed was really an eye opener, leaving us firmly decided on NEVER doing a bathroom renovation again, if we can avoid it. And extremely happy that the insurance took it all.

Luckily, the result is stunningly good, and even if it's over a year since it got completed, it still feels a bit like a hotel bathroom whenever I go into it. In a nice way, that is.

Spent much of this morning trying to find a local supplier of small tiles of the correct depth, no luck although I did get a lead to a company in Glasgow. So further looking on the web to no avail other than finding a couple of places that sold an edge tile that looked somewhat similar to what I used some twenty years ago which partly explains why I can't find the same thing now      The downside was that for a couple of strips of tile, costing under £7, the total would be a little under £45 due to postage! 
I am going to stick the bits I have back together and colour in any filler in any gaps with Hu3 which is the nearest colour to the tiles. There is also the slimmest chance that I may have stored away somewhere    one unsullied length of edge tile which means I could possibly, if I ever find it, manage to get away with minimal camouflage of adhesive /filler. "fingers crossed emoticon"
I decided this afternoon to order a sheet of small tiles which alternate between Black and White on the backing sheet which will tie in with the border around the bath and sink. The border has its black squares at 45^o where these tiles will be square, so to speak

I have been looking at the two most recent Modelsvit Mirages I have bought with the intent of some melding together of them. After lots of looking around for some donor parts as I found that what I had thought of was not practical, I stumbled across an old part assembled Airfix F-15 in its box. This kit goes back to the days of Airfix and Heller sharing moulds and the glue showed it as I was fairly easily able to remove the rear instrument panel and combing by simply stressing the fuselage seam until it split. Add in a few other parts and I should only have to build a rear cockpit. Only he says

I had been looking at combining parts from a 2KD into a 4K but found that would not work as I intended and leave me with the 2K airframe as scrap so I am taking a different route.

I had totally forgotten that I had ordered some tiles which turned up today. They are thinner than I need and they are not black and white, more black and Cream. I may have to consider sending them back due to the colour.

Friday afternoon was quite good for me, although there were downsides too. As you may be aware dear reader, I have been trying to finish my bathroom upgrade which has been going on for almost as long as some of my model builds. Not as long as the longest as they are into decades, but like most, several years.
When I had a contractor in to finish the tiling and to fix my gout grout problems, he recommended a store for some specific type of tile I was looking for. A couple of weekends ago I visited that store which then pointed me to another store as they no longer took stock from them.
I did try looking at the companies web site, but when buying tiles it's best to look at the product. I ended up with some black and a sort of beige tile rather that with some black and white tiles, just like a chessboard was what I was after, not a sort of light brown. So to go to the store I had to travel from Livingston to Hillington, which is on the far side of Glasgow. Not a major problem until I followed the recommendations of Google Maps and turned off the M8 and onto the M73. I should have just stayed on the M8 and gone through Glasgow rather than around the south side of the city. I got to the store with just some anxiety due to the large volume of traffic and my unfamiliarity with the route, I have been on that road before, just not for some time and not very often either. So at the store, I found some acceptable tiles which I ordered as I was quite surprised at the normality of the price compared to some sites I had seen online. The woman who served me had suggested that they could post the tiles to me to save me from having to travel through to pick them up. I may decide just to go through and pick the tiles up by hand, that way I will have them home for the weekend rather than goodness knows when, I can also inspect them to see if they are what I ordered. Handily there is a Burger King just across the road from the store so as it was around two in the afternoon I decided to have lunch.
Reasonably well-fed and watered I returned home to find my cat sitting on top of the wall near my flat waiting for me to come home.

I have been trying to get some work done on a few models. Its small stuff that I should be able to finish fairly quickly so I can take it to Telford. I have two MB.5's on the go and am Airfix Tempest which is to be given the Mr Durante treatment courtesy of Freightdogs conversion set. That should be enough to keep me busy. If I manage to finish those three I have a Single seat Firefly that needs finishing as well. This coming weekend though will have several hours spent on D.I.Y. as I am picking up the tiles to finish the bathroom.
I am also waiting for news from Fraxis about the requirements for CIV VII which is due to be released in February so I can find out if I need to replace my computer in the new year..

I do pick the wrong way to travel at times. Today I went back to Hillington from Livingston and thought it would be easier to just stay on the M8 all the way rather than go around the south side of Glasgoe by changing onto the M74 via the M73 which normally has a long cue due to the junction between the M8 and M73 being via a roundabout    Anywho, the M8 has some reductions in the number of lanes due to work being carried out on some of the bridges and flyovers that make up part of the M8 near and through the centre of Glasgow, I almost fully stopped a couple of times. So it might have been easier going the other direction, no matter as I didn't have to change motorways so the route was simpler.
The trip to Hillington was a success as I got the tiles I had ordered and they were as expected which was a result. Lunch was across the road from the tile shop in the local Burger King. Things went a bit wrong after that as I decided to pop into IKEA which was only a mile or so away. Despite following instructions from Google Maps I took the wrong exit from a roundabout    It all worked out in the end and the navigation got me to the store despite my attempt not to go there. After a fruitless search through the upstairs, I asked one of the staff where I could find the Dundergubbe. She told me downstairs  I eventually found the boxes and promptly left the store after paying for them. I then attempted to quickly head home. However, there was a crash on the M8 in the direction I was travelling. I hearse had run into the back of another car in the outside lane of a three-lane motorway. In trying to get into a faster lane of traffic I ended up stuck on a lane that left the motorway. Great I thought    It was not too bad for the most part though. I was actually on the road through the Clyde Tunnell which I had wanted to go through for a few years but never really had the opportunity to do so. It all fell a bit flat though as I approached the city centre. Not knowing the road meant that I got into the outside lane when I should have stayed on the inside lane because everyone and their dog wanted the same turning that led to the M8. After all that the rest of the trip home was almost uneventful. I nearly took the wrong turning but realised I was in the wrong lane and was able to go back to where I should be but that was that.
Tomorrow I need to buy some paint as well as doing a food shopping, then it's D.I.Y. mode to finish the tiling in the bathroom over the weekend.

Seems like the hearse was rushing. Don't know why, I'm sure the poor person in the casket wasn't in a hurry.

Sounds like a typical day driving through Chicago.
