I have decided to redo this panel by using a spare decal. The old decal has been scraped off and a coat of Humbrol 21 will be applied this time rather than the Matt paint that was previously used.
The spare is from another kit which is going to get the eduard treatment so the decal is redundant for that kit.

So after cleaning off the old decal, applying gloss paint and then the "spare" decal I managed to assemble the fuselage. then this kind of happened

I see lots of PSR in my future, as if that never happens  ;D

I'm looking at putting the propellors together, but I have a problem. I can't find the instructions, nor can I find the other conversion set I bought to use the instructions from.

Although each propellor blade is marked either F or R, for Front or Rear, I vaguely remember something about the propellor blades being marked wrongly and should be the other way around.

The end of the propellor blades marked F have a step in them which fits into the holes of the rear propellor hub which supports my memory, however, I prefer solid evidence than rely on my ageing memory.

Can someone check for me and let me know if that is correct?

Wonders will never end!

I found my other Freightdog P.1027 conversion set!  :drink:

It was hiding in a box that was out of sight along with parts of an Academy Tempest which I was attempting to scratch build into the Eagle-powered aircraft. The instructions confirm what my memory was telling me about the propellor blades being labelled wrongly, that F was R and that R was F.

I can now continue with assembling the propellors between periods of PSR on the engine fuselage joint.

Some progress

The two halves of the propellor hubs are not glued together to make it easier to paint each section. I had to swap the rear hub as the rear of the back one was too large for the front of the engine by a visible amount, however, the other conversion set's part looked far better and the hub from the set I have open fitted the engine front of the second set very well too, so I swapped them.

More filler has been added to the top of the engine cover as the profile didn't look quite right. I will see how it looks tomorrow when I sand it back again. I could well end up adding more filler, but then I am using the conversion set with a different model than the recommended kit.

Just about finished the second round of PSR

Who knows, I might manage to finish this in time, might.....

That Eagle engine look good no matter what it's fitted to!

I'm tempted to get a couple more, how about an Eagle Mustang? Or an Eagle Corsair even?

That's just challenging one of our number to do something  extreme  and probably ridiculous!    Eagle engined Swordfish/Albacore, perhaps;  or even bolt one to the front of a Chipmunk?

I think the depth of that chin intake is about the same as the width of a Chipmunk fuselage.

Kit, if you get several of these engines you could put two on an early Meteor!

Now THERE'S an idea!

It'd need MUCH longer landing gear to clear those monster props though.

Maybe two on a Mossie, or a Hornet even?

Not so much if the chine intake was level with the wing leading edge. The intake that is under the rear fuselage could then be faired into the underside of the original engine shape with the exhaust being from the existing exhaust from what was the jet engine. OF course this is all "Blue Sky" thinking and in way checked against any model as I am at work, but I think the idea floats.

Sea Fury would be almost sensible, but how about a DH9 or a Brisfit?

Eagle Sea Fury?  See https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?msg=589585.  The deleted Photobucket pics will be replaced in due course.

An Eagle P-47 could be a whif alternative to the https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_XP-72, more akin to what was being proposed in the https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_XP-69
