Well, whenever is was, the first attempt at it wasn't very successful. This photo was given to me by one of the painters who worked on it, and which was taken moments after it was rolled out of the paint shop. Apparently, the base commander was livid and was going to discipline the charge-hand until the charge-hand showed him the work order sheet specifying what paint to use and what he had used ---  The aircraft didn't get repainted until after it's first major overhaul.

Thanks, that gave me something to search for. This first attempt became known as the Brown Bomber, and I found a photo of it dated 1977.

Looks like a dark caramel colour to me, quite neat though

The guy who gave me the photo said they had another name for it  --- The Flying T#rd

With Tropical Storm Isaac newly formed and heading east, it'd have been interesting for Nimrod, if still in service, to have changed roles post-Cold War from hunting subs to hunting hurricanes

Gondor
Do you mean the Nimrod R.1 and R.2 ?
They preformed the SIGINT duties 51 Squadron based at RAF Wyton.

MR.2s.  Replace the sonobuoys with dropsondes similar to what the 53rd WRS and NOAA hurricane hunters use to sample the storms

I am talking about a cross between the Snoopy Herc and a Nimrod. Snoopy was its nickname and it performed weather research and reconnance.

That'd be ANOTHER Whiff you could do with a Snoopy conversion set.  ;D

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Kit, I have both the Snoopy conversion and a Belfast. I am very slightly tempted to combine the two but will probably just keep the Belfast as is.

A BELFAST? In 1/72? Wow, that's got to look good Alastair! Who does that kit and what is it made from?

The Hercules Snoopy conversion fitted the nose of the Atlas like it was designed for it, the nose contours must be darned nigh identical, and I guess a Belfast nose can't be that far off either.

The Wooksta!

Magna did a Belfast, Combat Kits got the masters and reworked it.  It's in their "Grounds for Divorce" range, although still cheaper than Planet's Ju 390.

I'd still like the idea of converting the BAe Nimrod into an airliner. In the real world it wasn't a suitable as a tanker aircraft but it could be with hose and drouge tanks. An aerial water bomber is another option. Or as the BBC once stated that the Nimrod was used by the Royal Navy a suitable decal sheet would be needed.
