Quote from: Wardukw on August 30, 2024, 07:11:58 PMRui mate if I ever build a 500 series chopper again I going to do this ...im cutting the frame of the fuselage for the glazing and gluing that to it ..then glue the whole back to the fuselage..fit problem should be sorted ...ok I want to try that now lol
Tome to be a cheap 48th Hughes 500 I think 😆

I've got two Academy 1/48 MD-500 with CMK conversion sets for the AH-6F/J and 500E and i've been thinking that maybe trying to glue the glazing to each fuselage half separately could help with getting a better fit... all i know is that when i do build another one, i'll need a different approach to avoid this issue.
It's gonna be a Academy 500 I'll get as there cheap and quite easy to get ..cheap enough that it works for an experiment..so no lose if things go pear shaped.
I'm not going to use a Dragon one as mate apart from not seeing one in a damn long minute the price ..holy poop pickles  :o  :o

;D  ;D
Yup, not cheap... i have been tempted by the Kittyhawk kit... also expensive but i think the little bird is worth it... ;D
Ohhhh ive seen that model and the words very yummy come to mind 😋 😁😁

Yeah, the KH Little birds look very good and i've been thinking of buying the AH kit, even being 1/35, which is not my preferred scale.
My biggest issues is not only the price but Kittyhawk  doesn't have the greatest rep when it comes to parts fitment...it's alot of money for a small model which is going have big problems 🤔

Don't think you'll have too many issues, check out the build review below...  https://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/builds/kh/build_kh_50003.shtml

Should I mention that I have a Kitty Hawk 1/35 AH-6 in the Wombat Stash?

I see nothing wrong in doing so... but that may end up feeding my jealousy too much and getting me in trouble...

We have ten entries in this discussion, not counting this one. Is that a record?
Nope 😄
We had one which ended up so squeezed its was just lines ..you couldn't read the words 😄😄😄

Don't know what the record is but i've seen a few of these on here...  ;D
BTW, last night i almost added the KH AH-6 kit to my reservation list on the Superhobby site but realized i don't need it.
I already have the kit and conversion set in 1/48 so i'll only buy a bigger MD500D with tall skids to make Colonel Cochrane's bird in the Blue Thunder movie to join my Monogram BT and the KH kit needs too many mods to end up like the one i want so i'll have to wait until a more suitable option is available... :-\
Nothing relevant to say (no change there then).  I just wanted to add to the nest.    ;)

Ok

I've nothing against that although i do have minor updates on the Cobra build...   ;D
Painted the engine exhaust and a couple of steel wire grids for the doghouse small intake and lateral engine vent.
The cockpit needs surgery to begin with by cutting off the aft firewall to replace with a new one with more detail on it. Simple job done in a few minutes.

May end up doing a bit more on the pit tonight but right now, i need food...  ;D

Just be aware on the engine exhaust that it's not the tightest fit when you put on the other half of the fuselage. After I glued everything together I heard a rattling sound and realized the exhaust had come off and fell into the fuselage  :o . I just put the anti-strella exhaust scoop on, it still works for what I'm going for. Also be aware she's a bit of a tail sitter (something I didn't realize till I had her together  :banghead: ) so you'll need to weight the nose a bit.

Thanks for the warning, Harry.
I can safely say that this exhaust isn't popping off, i've just tried to move it a bit and it was hard to do so cause it's firmly glued in place. I'll still pay close attention when i close up the fuselage.
I was aware of the nose weight issue cause i also had to add quite a bit when i built the Italeri AH-1W. Even though mine had a heavier tail section, i tested it before the Fenestron and saw it would need nose weight anyway.

No further progress has been made so far, maybe tonight i get some bench time...

Been working on the Cobra and got the pit done and attached to the fuselage... Seems like this ill be a much easier build than both the Italeri Loach and Cobra kits...

Today being my birthday, i get to choose what i want to do and that means a chilled day with my better half and maybe get some bench time later on...

Thank you, Master Wombat!
We had the family over for lunch yesterday and had dinner with a few friends, after visiting my parents so all the social activities were fulfilled and that left today free of commitments.
The result was the following...

Got most of the bigger parts assembled and checked the needed nose weight to keep it on its skids with some lead fishing weights cut and pressed into shape to fit inside the nose and gun turret. It's more than enough so the next step will be to clean all the seams and see what else can be glued on before i begin painting.

That piece of lead in the gun turret looks exactly like what I do. Squeeze the weight with a big pliers until it screams for mercy.
Looking pretty good to me!

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The lead is easy to work with and to shape into whatever one needs.

Glad you had a great birthday. Sound's like a perfect one to me.

I wrapped up my Cobra this weekend and thought you might like to give it a gander.  It was definitely a challenging kit. Pretty much OOB except for Quinta Cockpit decals, Eduard RBF flags and I did make a mod so that the main rotor could spin freely. I also had to mask and spray the shark mouth as the provided decals came apart on me. Now I've got a complete set of Pink Team Gunslingers  ;D

kerick

Those three look great together! Lots of hard work but worth it.

That is excellent work!
Saw it on facebook earlier today, love the family pic, nice teeth on the trio...
I did look for 3D cockpit decals but could only find the MPM PE sets... in hindsight, i should've bought them, the kit's decals look weird but, too late for this one now. I will buy a 3d set for the 1/48 AH-1Q/S kit i have in the stash. ;)
Today i didn't touch the my kit, had some vocals to record on a new song for the band... maybe tomorrow.

Just a small update to show i've been doing something...
I really like to have crews in my models so, forced by the lack of proper helo pilot figures for this build, i grabbed a couple of Italeri NATO standing jet pilots that had their helmets under their arm, cut the helmets out and put them on their heads.
The helmets needed some sprue goo to be sanded to shape on the areas where the arm was, amputated arms will be scratched up once i'm done with the heads and bodies have been bent into the correct positions to get them seated in the cockpit.

You cannot view this attachment.

I've also managed to get all the seams cleaned up and only needed to use a small bit of sprue goo on the top of the nose but that may have been my doing when cutting off the fuselage parts from the sprue.
There was some heavier sanding on the nose and tail rotor to boom joints so i will have to restore a couple of lost rivets and panel lines.
