I figured it incorporated the most dry land on the northern side of the planet to make it viable for those who wanted to do some sort of homage to Ice Station Zebra or the NBC miniseries World War III, when one considers that Antarctica is entirely (greater than 99.999%) within the Antarctic Circle.

I'm undecided if I'll be taking part in this group build. I'd really like to, but if the parts I ordered from 3D-Wild arrive for my stealth aircraft carrier on the 14th or after, I may have to skip this group build. I've really want to get back to work on my carrier as I'd like to finish it for some important contests early next year.
As we get closer to November, I'll make my final decision on joining this group build or not.

Funny you should mention that.  As I just said in the Rules thread;

My as yet unpublished Brief History of the People's Democratic Republic of Victoria: Part 2 states that WW2 was ended by an RAF Lincoln, flying off the Habakkak class berg-carrier HMS Havabanana, which dropped a Nuclear Bomb on the secret Japanese Antarctic base.  The resulting atomic fireball resulted in the melting of the Antarctic ice cap.  Post war, anti-radiation vehicles were sent into the Antarctic interior to survey the area and search for advanced technology beyond the Mountains of Madness...
A second Lincoln later bombed the Japanese fleet as it lay at anchor off Darwin having brought the Japanese Emperor to sign the formal surrender document.  This action was said to be carried out by the British "just to make sure" but there are rumours that the mission was not authorised and was carried out by a rogue crew with strong socialist leanings. It is claimed that this is denied to this day because to admit to the truth is more embarrassing than the world thinking you capable of such bloody revenge.
The first two British nukes were named Tiny Tim and Tubby Blighter and the two Lincolns were named Mary Mavis and Cattal's Truck.

By having the line at 60º South rather than the Antarctic Circle some additional islands are included in the scope of the GB which could be the locations of possible secret seaplane, submarine or ekranoplan bases as they would remain mostly ice free.

Would have thought Flashman would be the most appropriate name for the second British atom bomb...

Ekranoplan bases sound pretty cool. Cool, get it?
Actually I'm probably going to take a modeling seista as a I have far too many home maintenance projects that have been waiting far too long long.

Looking on my bench I have a few candidates,  first heavy equipment for the DEW Line. Then the MIT Project LAMP LIGHT, Polar Bears versus the USNavy SEALs, depending on my budget.

The Battle(s) of Wrangel Island. Not decided when this happened yet. US, Canada, Russia/Soviet Union. Could be as far back as the 1840s, though the Cold War would be the obvious humor.
Land, air, and sea forces, both military and civilian.
I'm thinking icebreaker warships and ski-gear planes and white camouflaged armor.
