Progress is a Good Thing. Even a little.

Quote from: Gondor on October 06, 2024, 12:07:51 PMThree days ago I produced a list. I have now crossed off item One!

1) Shower door
2) Decal the Firefly & my Mule
3) Paint the P-53. This sounds simple but I am going to go for a bare metal finish that is brush-painted  :-\
4) Sort out the PSR on the Starboard wing of a Hunter that is mostly finished
5) Find the seat for the Hunter and progress that
6) Progress the seat for a Swift that is almost complete
7) Try and progress the Swift
8) Do more work on the Eagle Tempest.

Item Four has almost sorted itself out. I was sanding back some filler I had applied when there was the sound of a crack and I felt the top of the wing/fuselage joint move. Not a problem in this case as the problem had been that it had shifted while the glue was drying so that the top of the wing/fuselage joint was too high, now it was free to be glued in its correct position!

So some progress and one item crossed off the list with a second close behind.

This is good progress. My similar list would need three weeks rather than three days to reach a similar result..
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

Advice from my  great grandmother over half a century ago  was this "  If you're making a list of jobs to do, ALWAYS include a couple that can be finished quickly and easily.  A list looks so much more do-able with things crossed off"

Fifty-something years later, I have not yet found anything to challenge this  advice.

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you....."
It  means that you read  the instruction sheet

That sounds like good advice.

Today has not been so good, I called in sick this morning as my insides were grumbling away like a threatening thunderstorm. I went back to bed and slept for a few more hours. Not done much since I got up for the second time other than get rid of the old shower door and on the way home bought a new tin opener. I had been wondering why the old one had been getting stiff in places. No sniggering at the back! I found out when inspecting the opener this morning that some of the teeth were bent or damaged which explained why they were not not working well.

Now, I like that a *lot*! Mums and Nanas always knew best.

So modelling wist things are progressing nicely. One thing that is a bit of a problem is the instructions. How to keep them exactly where I want them and yet not get in the way

I have come up with a solution, and I have just found out that I have spent more money on it than I needed to, so far about £5  :banghead:

I have bought one of these only to find it slightly cheaper and with free postage  :banghead:

My intent is to remove the bracket that attaches to a stand and reposition it near the top of the back. I may also invert it, it depends on how the angle works for me. I also intend to replace the end of the arm with a flat plate so that it can fit either between or on top of the paint draws I have at the back of my bench, maybe a universal joint of some kind like on a set of helping hands. This will allow me to move the stand out of the way if I need to open a draw that is behind/ below the stand. Hopefully, the whole thing will not be too expensive either.

I have decided to concentrate on getting the P-53 and P.1027 finished for Telford and then trying to get one or two of the other almost finished builds done. I have one that needs a broken undercarriage fixed and a few other little bits and peices done so that's a possible.
I am also starting to think of what to work on after Telford. This will of course partly depend on what I may or may not buy or see there, or even what discussions I have, and where they lead my mind.
I have a couple of TSR.2's I should work on and a few Hawker projects I should also work on. There are a couple of Lightenings that need a lot more work on as well. So much that could be done, we will just have to wait and see.

On another note, I have been trying to look at the Models For Sale web site but it's down. Has the company folded? Can anyone shed light on this?

They sometimes shut the site down on Sundays, and I doubt they've folded, they're like a mini-Hannants when you see the place.

I'm only a few miles from them just now so I'll go and check if you like?

The music stand is an interesting idea. There is a couple of them hiding around the house from when the kids were in school band.

So not much has been written in the last week, in fact nothing  :-\  Work has been busy, I have been cross training a young woman in my job for about two weeks. It's been quite nice to have someone to work with, it helps that she is nice looking too. The only real problem is that her timekeeping is a bit lacking at the moment as she is having problems getting to sleep.
Modelling wise, I only need to do a few touchops to the P-53 before I gloss coat it in properation for the decals, not many of them thankfully, then weathering etc, very restrained I think with a final gloss coat afterwards so that should be doable in a week and a half.
The P.1027 is progressing quite nicely too. I have just finished giving the propellor spinners another coat of colour, I hope it's the last one as the previous paint I used was not bright enough. The propellor blades also need painting but that should be the last of the paint being applied other than onto the canopy which I have yet to fit, probably later today with it being painted tomorrow. The main wheels are painted but I want to weather them before I fit them. Other than that it's a matter of glossing, decals and then more gloss. Should be done in time for Telford along with the P-53.

Tell your coworker to put her phone and computer away before bed time and read something boring like the classified ads before trying to sleep.
I had to take some tests once for medical reasons concerning cognitive abilities. I didn't help that the young woman giving the tests was very attractive. I had to close my eyes to concentrate on the questions.

I have made suggestions such as putting an alarm clock near her bedroom door so that she has to get up to turn it off. There is not much work at the moment so her being late compared to me is not a real problem especially as we have flexi-time which she is not breaking.

Not being able to fall asleep can be very annoying.
