When Sweden decided to phase out of service their older S tanks, they were offered for sale with parts at a very reasonable price. Honduras, who was in desperate need of new armour to replace their vulnerable and out gunned AMX 30's, jumped at the chance to buy 25 of these tanks and a further 10 when they became available. The tanks didn't go straight to Honduras though, they first went to Israel to have a few modifications and upgrades done to the extent, that they were very nearly 0 hour vehicles. Externally, they looked the same with exception of the paint scheme, which is being trialled by the Honduras armoured corps, but a new engine, suspension upgrades and targetting electronics were fitted. The super S, as it became known was a very agile and capable vehicle, and was a difficult target for the Cartel to shoot at. The low profile and speed, along with a more modern gun, made the tank a formidable opponent against everything the cartel had. The kit is the trumpeter 1/72nd scale one, which I have built 2 of, although, the other one is completely unrecognisable.

Hmmm, which is further from home? Honduras or the Cocos (Keeling) Islands? :unsure:

OK, quick check on Google Maps;

Honduras (Tegucigalpa)-Sweden (Stockholm) = 9,497km
Cocos (Keeling) Islands (West Island)-Sweden (Stockholm) = 10,568km

PS: Oops! Forgot to mention;

          Excellent build, Chris!
          Especially for small scale! :thumbsup:  :thumbsup:

I also got one in The Stash (in 1:72). Had the idea to give it a British Army Berlin scheme, as a test vehicle, but that idea turned out to be rubbish (at least historically), so I folded it.

Thanks gentlemen :thumbsup:
I really like the S tank, and I am sure they could have been developed further, as the concept is still, to me at least a feasable one.
Cheers.

It could have been a trials vehicle, and in that urban environment the super low profile would have been handy. It's even lower than the Berlin buses!  ;D

That's really neat Chris  :thumbsup:  :thumbsup:

Always liked the S Tank and as for British Army use ? Might have made a good urban defense vehicle for the Berlin Brigade ? After all they weren't going anywhere if the Soviets attacked and they knew it. So they'd have almost been a one-shot weapon.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Absolutely Chris, they would have been a good choice for such an environment.

The British Army did evaluate the Strv 103 in the 1970s. There's a Swedish report about it to be found online, and it makes for ... interesting reading :)
... I know all this and more ...

But every Army says that about about every other Army. None of them think 'the other guy' does it right.

Thats what I thought.  Where can we view the BAOR report on the Swedes?
