Impressive.  What color are you thinking you'll change it to?

Brush painting Aluminium or Silver is always a lottery.  Invest in a can of Halfords or ideally Hycote Aluminium (cheaper and more in the can) and go for a sprayed finish.

That is Hu56 on the aircraft at the moment. I am going to repaint it in Hu11. Lee, I don't get on very well with rattle cans at all. Same reason that I don't do well with an airbrush, although I do intend to try and get better at that, when I get around to it.

I get the sentiment but really, it's down to practice.  I've been using rattle cans for some finishes for 25 years and still cock up, with an airbrush for nigh on 30 and still get off finishes. Especially if paint lifts when removing masking.

Practice with some cheap cans and an old model used as a mule.

This is much better.

Might be a little dull, but that can be fixed with a gloss coat which it will get along with the decals.

I don't know why buy brushing anything metallic..aluminum..steel..gunmetal and the like is so hit and miss ...Humbrol 56 (aluminum) and 53 (gunmetal) was always interesting but the polished Metalcote range I've always had problems with...it's getting a smooth finish which I could never get .
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .

I gave this a coat of gloss varnish but was not happy with the way it looked, even before the varnish. So I decided to get out the hairy stick again and have another go.

You probably can't tell if there is any difference in the photograph, I can though tell in real life and I am much happier with the finish I have not got. Next is a gloss varnish later this week and then decals this weekend.

Considering that was painted with a hairy stick that's looking pretty good Al...sliver is a right bugger to paint with a brush 😉
What problem I used to have is youd look at the paint thinking it's looking good..then ya varnish it and nope 😆

Opposite with this one. The Humbrol paint that was on it looked grainy. I will varnish it tonight so it will be ready for decals at the weekend.

Ahhh yes...I remember Humbrol silver ..the aluminum is like that too....it's like the pigments are to big ..out of scale so to speck.
Strangely I have s similar sort of issue with acrylics..the silver has the grainy affect to.
Ammo's silver is like that .

The main markings are on, now I have to work out what the serials will be. I would prefer to use decals that are pre-made in so much as that I only have to swap a number or letter around rather than having to add each number and letter from a generic sheet, the only problem is finding something useful that matches a cancelled order which I can say became what I am building. It's frustrating so far.  :banghead:

Some pictures to show where I am with this build, probably the last before Telford this year

Yes, the serials are not as good as they possibly could be on the rear fuselage, but I didn't notice that they were as bad as they look under magnification at the time. Almost finished though which is the main thing.
