another rest period, another Hawk build.

BAe Hawk T-1M, used by 899NAS in the mid 1990's to replace its ageing Hunter T-8M fleet of SeaHarrier radar system trainers.
A small number of these were rebuilt from some of the original batch of RAF T-1's when it was decided to replace the Hunter T 8M's with something that wasnt as long in the tooth. This occured around the time when the SeaHarrier fleet upgraded to F/A 2 standard from FRS 1.
Fitted with some eliments from the export 100 series, with a new nose profile to carry a miniture version of the F/A 2's radar purely for training purposes. These aircarft were unarmed, how ever they could carry captive Sidwinders and latter on captive AMRAAM's. Once the SHAR's had retired the T 1M found further work with FRADU and on various Trials within the M.O.D.

A fairly quick build. Italeri Hawk 100 with its nose replaced by a resin replacement from Air Graphics for the South Korean Hawk Mk-59.
Gondor used the same nose on his Isreali hawk several moons ago. It kind of planted the seed for this one. Altough at the time I was thinking RAuxAF rather than the Fleet Air Arm.
Originaly this was going to use a standard T1 airframe but then it would look very much like a repainted Korean Aircraft as they lacked the RWR on the fin. So a hawk 100 took its place for this nose job.

Tamiya rattlecan Medium Sea Grey all over with the nose , fin tip and RWR reciver painted Gunze Dark Sea Grey. decals from the spares box for a SeaHarrier F/A-2. The serial and other Hawk related bits off a sheet from an old tool Airfix Hawk.
I have a few more Hawk ideas and as this year is the 50th aniversary of the first flight.............well, it would be rude not to.
I always hope for the best.

Very well done! Will it be at Telford?

A much better design than the one they used.

Agreed!

Gondor

Ah yes, the Hawk T.68

Well as it's the 50th of the Hawk I better bring mine to Telford with me. I shall also bring the F/A-45 along as well.

Last one before telford.

lets start with a little history.........

Now this is one of my oldest whiff builds that still survives. I built this mash up of an Italeri T45 Goshawk and a Matchbox Hawk 200 around 1998(ish). It was built as part of the same project that spawned my first VG Sea Lightning (see the very first page of this thread for that beast)
Ive toyed with redoing this one for years since. But never got around to doing it.

And I still havent because it now has company........In the shape of this one.

This time around its a mash up of yet again an Italeri T45, matched with the Airgraphics Hawk 200 conversion, intended for the Airfix Hawk 100 kit.
The resin parts fit the Italeri plastic quite well. I also robbed a few parts from an Italeri Hawk 100 and some spare bits (drop tanks and outter pylons) from a Revell Hawk T1.
As for the load out, the winders came from an Airfix Seaharrier F/A2 kit and the penquins are out of a Hasegawa Weapon set.
Paint is my usual mix of Gunze and life color. Decals are from the decal stash apart from the squadron badge on the tail. That was home made and is for a very obsure Fleet Air Arm Unit that disbanded in 1945. namely 788NAS. It was formed in Ceylon around 1940 and served in various roles untill it disbanded in 45, still in Ceylon while using Bueaforts and Defiant Target tugs.
Seeing as my "other" hobby is archery, once I saw this badge which I stumbled on quite ramdomly while looking up some thing else up on Google it just had to be done.

A shot of old and new togeather.
Im Calling this the Seahawk rather than reuse the Goshawk. In this case the SeaHawk F/A-1 version. The yanks arnt the only ones to reuse aircraft names...Tornado, Typhoon, Tempest any one?

Both will be at Telford (the old ones first visit since 2000) along with as many of my whif Hawks as I can unearth before the show. This year is the 50th year since the Hawks first flight so a whiff line up is very appropriate.....
I always hope for the best.

I'm still waiting to see "Hurricane" make a comeback.

It nearly did once, but a while back.

IIRC the Hawker P.1121 was going to be called the Hurricane initially, but thanks to  Mr.  Sandys it never happened.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Not sure that reusing the names Hurricane, Spitfire, or Lancaster, would go over well. Retire those names, and honour their service.

Agree with that.
I haven't seen the name Churchill come back as a tank name, so there's precedent.

Nice ones, Martin.

I do like Hawk 200s in any guise.  Always regret selling on my Matchbox kit.

Well officially they are still in service, given that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is part of the RAF.

Captain Canada

This is another one of those threads I need to stay on top of ! So much to catch up on and enjoy !

Targets-always lovely to see armour, specially small scale and obscure armour ! I remember reading about the M8 when I was a young teen. Always loved the way it looked, and the idea of it being air droppable.

The C-RAM is incredible. I want one with axles/ spinning wheels so I can play with it.

The Star Trek shuttle is cool, and thanks for the insight into the craft in the series.

The ASTOL is really cool. Kind of ugly, kind of not.....looks decent from most angles tho. And I've always been a fan of the Harrier in that colour.

The Hawks are all sweet as well. Love the US one. The Goshawk just always looked tough. And your new single seater looks spot on ! That radar nose and those penguins. Very nice !
CANADA KICKS arse !!!!

Long Live the Commonwealth !!!
