They're going to announce the surprise on Twitter ("X" ) tomorrow at 10am.

Better would be announcing that they're re-tooling all their ships in 1/350 & 1/700 to match the rest of the world (with some exceptions).

I've been telling them in every poll and suggestion scheme forever to do a 1/700th Leander core sprue with interchangeable options to make three or four boxings.

Only 3 or 4? You can get loads more if as the Leander was a Type 12(Improved) so you can also do the Type 12 and Type 12M as well as the various upgrades to weaponry while in RN service, let alone the changes for the other Navies that operated them.

Yeah, but you can lump some of them together: for example, the Narrow Beam gun, Ikara and Exocet variants could all be in one box, since they use the same hull and core superstructure.

Quite right if you are careful with the layout of the sprues, that's the trick though, getting more options for less wasted plastic on sprues or too many sprues.

Yep, and if you want to cover some versions, there's precious little commonality. For instance, a Broad Beam Gun and Broad Beam Seawolf have virtually nothing in common at model scale: even half the superstructure is different unless you mold it in more fiddly bits than is customary in 1/700th.

I promise I won't complain IF:
1. It's 1/72nd scale
2. It isn't ABS (Another Bloody Spitfire)

I can relate to that!  ;D . In fact, I'll only be surprised if it ISN'T (a) another bloody Spitfire and, (b) another sop to to the 1/48 mafia.
