Why not indeed? If it works for floatplanes...
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

central ski ? original !

PR19_Kit

AFAIK the HU-16 Albatrosses (Albatrii?) that had ski landing gear had exactly that, one largish retractable ski under the hull and small outrigger skis attached under the wing floats.

The only pic I can find that shows a ski-equipped Albatross on the snow is sitting on its hull, but the caption says the RCAF HU-16s did have a retractable central ski.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Thanks Kit.

I have just realised I have some 1/25 surfboards which would make perfect central skis.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Rad ! Skegs on or off ?

Take a look at the Sea Dart for an idea on a retractable landing ski.
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

Originally my plan for this was to a) cut the nose off and ii) glue it back on upside down.
However, having carried out part a) I have realised that part ii) will put the wings at such an angle that they will generate downforce rather than lift.
I could apply Kits rule 2 but I think rewriting the rules of physics to such an extent is a bit far fetched even for me.
Not to worry though.  I shall cut the wings off, glue the nose back where it was and craft new mounts to put the wings back on higher up, upside down, and at a suitable angle to generate lift.

Cut, cut again, glue, cut, glue, pull it apart, cut and glue, cut, paint.  That was my early modelling career.

Anyhoo, this morning i cut the wings off, patched the resulting holes, and glued the nose back on.

Tophe's rule would apply though.

Albatrii? Or does that only apply to the WW1 creatures? ;)
