Quote from: Pellson on October 30, 2024, 12:04:58 AMI also use the "Ivar" shelf system in our hobby room/office. OK, I'm Swedish, so I probably should, but it's still a bit nice hearing that there's a similar use in other parts of the world.  ;)

Lots of talk about your upcoming election over there, and the result will definitely have an impact far beyond your borders, so yes, we're kind of holding our breath over here as well. These are dangerous times.  :-\

As much as SWMBO hates it, most of the house is "Furnished by Ikea".  And that includes a 30 year old "Billy" bookshelf they had in 22" wide shelves.

As for the election, we are all holding our breath here.

I've got Ivar in my shed.  Some of it used to be in the lounge room in South London (purchased from the IKEA which is now where Robert Atkinson's Croydon B power station was) and the rest was bought here.

My sister had Billy bookcases but I always thought Ivar was better due to its flexibility.

There was a Power Station in Croydon? Cooer, I never knew that, and I lived there for some years in my youth.

Centuries ago of course..........  ;D

Croydon B was on Purley Way about two miles North of Croydon Airport.  The two chimneys remain standing and can be seen on Google Earth next to Ikea.

Paternal grandparents used to live quite close to it on the Millar Rd Estate. If I remember correctly grandad had a job as a gateman there in the 50's ? I know he never seemed to be short of coal
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Well I'm blowed, I never knew that.

When we travelled from my Nanna's house in Croydon to my Aunt's place in Purley we joined the Purley Way just south of the Airport so we never went past the power station I guess.

You learn something new every day.

Quote from: Rheged on October 05, 2023, 09:56:07 AMIn January 1944  the British government offered New Zealand the opportunity to purchase four Short Sunderland Mk III transport flying boats, to be operated by the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF).

A cousin of mine was reassigned from 490 Sqn in West Africa, as second pilot of one of the ferry crews.
His self-published war memoirs make interesting reading on the subject of the ferry flight.
More fun on that trip than his whole time with 490... including getting to play on the FBI's target range; can't recall exactly where, though likely to have been New York?
And a little 'incident' with a photographic Lodestar that strayed a bit too close, trying to get that 'perfect shot' - ironically when they were almost at Auckland; the only time he was 'shot down' was due to Friendly Fire. :banghead:

Some random thoughts today in the office on what to do if I do get another 1/32 Tonka (as mentioned here:https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=10921.msg1059351#msg1059351):

Because my mind can become a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives, I was thinking Londthyrian ECR...but with a GR.4 cockpit, and LITENING pod on a belly station - as an EW and Wild Weasel.  Which then got me to thinking about an early Oughts/Teens heavy strike wing - 2 or 3 squadrons of GR.4s and ADVs, and a squadron each of ECRs and GR.4A reconnaissance platforms.

What? :o

So, your "raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives" has broken your mind & you're now contemplating building 4-to-5 squadrons of 1/32 Tonkas in various configurations?

Yes, it would be if they weren't rather...pricey, and I had the space to safely display them (Wut dis? Tap tap tap SMASH.  After all, I'm not the scion of South African emerald mine owners.  If this happens, it'd be one ECR Tonka in 1/32, the others in 48th.
