The RH side of the nose/cockpit assembly is glued in place now, and that gives me a guide for how to re-model the bomb bay. I'll do that before I add the LH side of the nose/cockpit as I may have to fiddle about inside first, and it's a very narrow fuselage!

Here its is so far, with a teaser view of one extended wing. It won't be QUITE that long, but that's the root part of it anyway.

Any guesses where it came from?  ;D

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

B-24 Liberator mes thinking 🤔 😊
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .

Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Going by the two colours for the upper and lower part of the wing I would say Matchbox PB4Y-2

You lot are too damn good.

I couldn't find a B-24 kit in The Loft, but I did find THREE Privateers, so one got the job.

ALL of you were right really.  ;D

It'll need a tad thinning as the top surface of the thick Davis section ends up higher than the top of the fuselage, but nothing that a hefty file and some PSR can't sort out.

Matchbox plastic should withstand it.

The return of the Ju 588.  ;D

The Wooksta did an INCREDIBLE job making resin copies of the 588's engine nacelles for me, thank you Lee.

Here's one of them next to Huma's styrene original.

In order that Lee could make a moulding from the styrene version I had to build it with the gear doors closed as the resin engines will be the outboard pair, and the styrene ones will have the main gear installed, and there lies a problem. The way Huma have designed the kit, they want me to install the gear legs before I assemble much of the rest of the kit, and I HATE doing that as the legs are very vulnerable and are likely to snap off.

As my build will use the much longer Privateer wings with the engines spaced as the Privateers Pratt & Whitneys are, I intend to cut a 'hatch' in the upper surface of the wing to drop the main gear leg in from above so I can assemble them at a more logical time during the build.

At least that's the plan...............

Great project Kit. in my stash I have the original masters for an unreleased (and unfinished) Ju 288A resin kit from Toad Resins. I had every intention to get it finished and released, but it lacks most of the interior, bomb bay, and no undercarriage whatsoever! One day, maybe...

Crumbs, that's a blast from the past Colin! Lee still has some Toad stuff AFAIK too.

The bomb bay would be dead easy, it's just a box really, but the cockpit's quite complicated.

But that undercarriage would be an absolute bear to design and manufacture, and in the RW Junkers didn't get it to work all that well either. :(

I assume that came from Justin Gorka?  I did some work on it for him but never got the chance to finish it before having to return it.  Did you get any of the other ex-Toad masters he held?

I think I managed to get most of the Toad kits and conversions over the years.  TBH, many of them have been surpassed by better kits in resin or plastic.

Worth rereleasing would be
Blohm und Voss P.202

Messerschmitt Me 209A-2 - this was the Jumo 213 engined version and was one of the later Toad kits mastered by Dennis Ives.  It was a warmed over Huma kit and had all the flaws of that kit.  Something wrong with the rear fuselage and the undercarriage bay shape.

Me 262C-2b conversion. Came with the overwing Lorin ramjets
Arado Ar 234 V-16 crescent wing conversion
Dornier Do 635 conversion

As for the Ju 288A.  I did have some ideas as to the undercarriage, IIRC using parts from an He 219 and a Ta 154.  I looked at it again recently as I've an Airmodel 288 to play with.  I found some bits of what was going to be a Jumo 222 cowling a few days back.

Oh, one more thing. Toad had started the masters for the Ju 288C.  Gorka had those in Feb '98, as I remember looking them over at the Huddersfield show alongside the masters for the Ju 288A. That planned Ju 288C kit was put on hold when the Huma kit was announced.  I don't know what happened to it after May '98.

Given that the Huma kit is now OOP, it may be worth resurrecting it and using parts of the Huma as potential donors.  It could also be reworked into the earlier Jumo 222 engined with some sanding and reshaping.  I looked at doing it with the Huma one a few months back.
