The Shavrov Sh-7 was a Soviet civil transport amphibious aircraft designed by Vadim Shavrov.
The prototype first flew on 16 June 1940 and by the end of the year it was decided to put the type into production. The start of the Great Patriotic War in June 1941 halted production and the prototype was then used to carry freight and passengers between Saratov and Astrakhan for a few months.
But what-if the Sh-7 had been put in produktion.
In september 1941 one of the first production Sh-7s was on a special supply mission. To improve the moral of the russian forces in Leningrad the plane was to fly a high priority cargo of Stolichnaya vodka from Moscow State Wine Warehouse No. 1. to the besieged city.
To be sure, that load was worth taking the risks of flying through swarms of german fighter planes, the crew made their own quality test. With their fighting spirits vastly improved the crew took off on their mission. After a while the dashboard started looking a bit hazy. But the heroic crew pushed forward on their important mission. After a while a big lake appeared ahead, and as he was sure that this was Lake Ladoga the pilot landed the plane.
Overwhelmed by exhaustion the crew fell asleep. When the plane driftet to the shore of Lake Saimaa, the plane was boarded by finnish troops, who took the unconscious crew in custody.
Ilmavoimat put the plane in service with 1/LLv 15 using it for transport, coast patrolling and supply missions to finnish guerrillas operating far behind the russian frontlines.

My build of the Shavrov Sh-7 will be based on odd pieces from my scrapyard. First piece is the float from a Airfix Junkers Ju 52/3m floatplane. And then - who knows

That looks REMARKABLY like a single engined Douglas Dolphin! The fin-rudder & tailplane shape and position are pretty much identical.

Which flew 10 years earlier....................
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Pretty plane. I like that kind of floatplanes, and I'd have supposed some short-run kit existed.
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Mayby there is a short-run kit. By I'll build a version different from the prototype - different engine and more Polar War like.

The design bureau of Vadim Borisovich Shavrov really loved that design. So they designed several of the kind.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

After hours of "fintænkning" (danish word meaning "fine thinking". Actually a state of mind, where you're looking blankly into the air, and - mayby - some great idea will pop up) I decided, that only the bottom of the float would be usefull. So it means - scrapbuilding.

Mat definitely wins the award for starting a GB with the least amount of parts  ;D
And what's not to love about a float plane ..the more ..the better 😄
Same as Chris...looking forward to this mate 👍
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

So on it goes with plasticcard and glue. It reminds me of a distant time, when I build model railways - narrow gauge H0e. As I was building a planed, but never actually constructed line in a danish procince, the wagons and locomotives were all made in plasticcard.

The fuselage bottom is now glued on and it's ready to float!  <_<  Ahead lies more cutting of plasticcard and certainly a lot of PSR.
