Winkle's Wings

The YouTube channel Gary's Stuff, run by Gary Evans, is currently having a group build, and the subject is any aircraft logged by Captain Winkle Brown. Obviously this allows for a crapload of aircraft, and quite a few variants. For instance, he flew 14 different marks of the Spitfire. I don't know if he had any 'stick time' on the two-seat Hawker Hunter (he flew the single-seat), but that's the one I chose, because I had the Matchbox offering in the stash. Yes, it has the trenches for panel lines, an incorrect nose profile, and a spartan interior, but if you built a 1:1 scale replica, Winkle could probably fly it anyway. Building has stalled because of troubles with printing the decals, I'll probably take the file over to our local print shop and let them have a go at them.

Winkle was born in Hackney, but grew up in Scotland, so the saltire graces the wings. Backstory will have this as his own personal aircraft. I had a chat with Gary Evans at SMW 2024, nice chap, and he supports Models For Heroes, a worthy cause. I brought over 20 Flying Points from my Airfix boxes and donated them there.

BAGS of scope in that GB.  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

That's looking terrific Ratty
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Looks good. I hope you don't take this the wrong way but as I am Scottish I felt I needed to correct you on a point in your description. A St. Andrews Cross is called a Saltire. So you could have said on or the other, never a mixture of both.

And the answer to what a Scotsman wears under his kilt is....... footwear!  ;D

Gondor

Oh, and good luck with the time travelling.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

Noted!   I was under the impression that any diagonal cross flag was a saltire, a perusal of the interwebbies shows that you are correct. Time travelling? I prefer 'nostalgia,' although the urge to fill those trenches and rescribe is always teasing me.  ;D

I was referring to your trip to Telford, which you mentioned in your post. 2025 is next year.  :o
