Quote from: Beermonster58 on January 14, 2025, 08:43:26 AMQuelle surprise! Yet more bloody Spitfires and, once again the 1/48 mafia is favoured.
Virtually nothing new (other than the Wessex) in 1/72 except rehashes of rehashes of rehashes of kits a lot of us will already have.

Personal view only but  I think it's a miserable line up with absolutely nothing to tempt me to part with cash. I certainly don't need any of the reissues.

Another triumph of hype over substance. Que Sera! Sera! My money goes elsewhere this year.

I'm not an Airfix builder. But if I were, I'd probably agree with most of your comments. The lineup is just more of the "same old, same old" stuff.
What is it with the Spitfire? I get it that it was an important plane that has a very distinguished history and all. But don't you Brits ever get tired of seeing another Spitfire after another Spitfire after another Spitfire, etc., etc., etc. being constantly released every so often? I guess Airfix won't be satisfied until they've released all 1,374,922 (and still counting  ;D  ) variants of the Spitfire with every camouflage paint scheme and decal marking ever seen for the aircraft.

PLENTY of us Brits get tired of it.

Plot Twist: The Wooksta is secretly Airfix's Head Of Product Strategy. Once they've issued every Spitfire variant ever, they're going to start on the DH Hornets.... ;)

If that was the case, I certainly wouldn't be doing them in 48th.

They're all up on the website with prices. Off the top of my head:

Space Shuttle, Saturn V and SLS, all £50 each. Not as bad as I feared, actually. Still a lot of money though.
Wessex: £25.
Puma: £16.
Clipper: £22.
Ex-JBs: £12.
Stalwart: £40.
Vosper MTB & RAF Rescue Launch: £25. That seems like a pretty decent price tbh: there's a lot in those kits.
E-Boat: £50. Seems a lot, but remember the E-Boat is WAY bigger than the MTB.

I have to remind myself whenever the E Boat is re-released. It's nearly a foot and half long, heck of a lot of plastic in that box.

Prices overall don't seem to bad, by current standards. Doesn't mean I can afford them...

Is Airfix ever going to release a 1/350 scale (or 1/700) of the UK's new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carrier?
I wouldn't mind buying/having one. ;)
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Nope they tease it occasionally but the current crowd are too focused in pandering to the 48th online crowd.

Trumpeter announced the 1/700 QNLZ a couple of years ago, and preview of the 25/26 catalogue now show it with box art, so possibly out this year.

(Trumpeter also have the USS Midway in early and late guises, so 40s and 80s versions)

Doing a Spitfire Tr.9 as well as a Mk IX makes sense, minimal extra outlay for a new fuselage sprue and the rear cockpit internals, plus a spare canopy on the glazing.  If the cannon panels on the wing are drop in, then plain blanking covers.  Of flashed over holes for separate blisters. Or it may be new wing uppers, as the Tr.9s had that heart shaped blister inboard of the cannons to cover a cutout for the wheel when they changed the tracking in July '45.

Making it an E wing means a 16 high back is also possible, as long as the upper engine cowling is separate.  Proper minefield, even for those clued in.

However, no serious Spitfire fan in 48th is going to wait for the Airfix F.IXe to come out, as they'll already have a stash full of the Eduard kits.  And as good as Airfix are getting, there's no way their IX is going to better the Eduard, on price or quality.  Hannants are already asking £29.99 (less if you pre-order) but £28 for an Eduard Profipack, with etch, masks and six decal options. Weekend are less and you can pick up an Eduard one for well under twenty notes if you shop around.  If I was doing Spitfires in 48th, why would I pay another tenner just for the Airfix logo?

There's already grumblings on Britmodeller, saying that for the price it's going to have to be better than Eduard for many to part with a penny for the Airfix.

Edit: only three decal options in the mk IX and just two in the Tr.9.  How many options in the Eduard Profipack?  Oh, that's right - 6. And etch.  And masks.  You really do know how to make a VFM package, Airfix.  Do I get some Ferrere Roche with that, hand delivered by General Carrington?

Well as expected 48th and RAF Bias, Stalwart will please the armour crowd and STS is something new.
72nd are mostly reissues and alternative versions, as the Wessex is the RAF HC2 its not a must buy for me, and its likely to be reboxed as the SAR version next rather than a RN variant.

So whilst not impressed with the 2025 range, i'm still rather happy with it as it means no must buys or multiple buys this year from Airfix and its helped me confirm a switch back to my 1/700 shps this year especially as we may see the Trumpeter 1/700 HMS Queen Elizabeth carrier as i will want a few of them, so there is a silver lining for me.

Of course there is a 1/35 Stalwart. Got one from Accurate Armour last year when they announced they were shutting down  :banghead:  :banghead:

You can probably all look forward to an imminent release of the 3.7inch Anti Aircraft gun as well... that was also in the order :)

Great, I shall delete my post about it then. Mind you, I just noticed that you missed out the SLS gift set.

I've listed that under new tools. I'll leave it there, but change the list slightly.

That's one I'll buy, especially if they do the HAR.2. I regularly used to see the yellow SAR Wessex's from Leconfield, one touched down in a paddock in my village as I on my doing my paper round, so a 202 Sqn machine has to be done. I have the decals I need in a Modeldecal set, if the HC.2 boxing has the right parts I'll probably buy it.
