The Wooksta!

RLM 70.  Seems to be the go to colour for bombs, props and spinners.

70? Magic, thanks. I've got some of that in hand already.

It's got decals on it now.  ;D

I used the Huma decals for the main insignia, but cut off the unit codes as they wouldn't be applicable to a late 1945-46 time frame, and printed up some of my own. Don't ask me what unit they're for, I haven't a CLUE about Luftwaffe unit codes and I pinched them from a pic of the projected Ta 400 'Amerika Bomber'.

I've got to print up and apply a couple of swastikas for the fins yet, but those who don't approve need not look at pics with them included.

DAMN!!! that's looking so good Kit ...mate I'm really enjoying this build
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .

Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Still think it would be better with roundels over the crosses and an Air Min number.

6N is either KG 1 or KG 100.  I used that code on the Ju 488 V401 I did back in 1994. Long gone now.

On the final straight now, Kit!

I'd agree on both fronts, but I've done the 'captured' bit 3-4 times now.

And KG 100 sounds about right for any or all of the 'Amerika Bomber' aircraft.

Coming together now Kit
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The Wooksta!

6N is definitely KG100 and they were based in France for maritime strike/ strategic operations in the correct timeframe.

This could be useful for Luftwaffe codes in general:

It's been a long time since I've had to worry about them.

PR19_Kit

VERY handy Lee, thanks.

As it happens my backstory fits in with KG 100's geographical location perfectly.

It's got to the 'fiddly bits' bit now, gluing on the landing gear doors and bomb bay doors and the guns etc. I HATE this bit because they never have any location bits on them and 90% of the time they're just butt jointed. Holding these tiny thingies in place while the glue 'grabs' is a real pain, and the bomb bay doors have both had to be yanked off and re-glued because they weren't quite in the correct position.   :banghead:

The landing gear doors are a bit more difficult. Pics of the Ju 288, on which the 588 is based, show that the main landing gear doors are closed when it's on the ground, but the retraction arm of both gear legs would then have to pass THROUGH the door itself. Huma seem to have ignored this slight 'problem' and suggest you leave the doors open!

Cobblers to that, I'll cut some slots in the doors to take the retraction arms and add mini-doors to the slots, as Junkers must have done back in the 40s.

Sounds like the most sensible option.

'Sides, it's:
1. A whiff.
2. Your Model!
So:
3. Whatever you come up with is correct! (see Rule #2)

This is all going to read a bit philosophically but I've got to the stage with the 588 where I've about had enough of it, and I want it finished!  :-\

It's looking as I originally intended, which is OK, but it took a long time to build, and while the actual construction went well and is quite pleasing, the paintwork just isn't good enough. It's OK from 2-3 feet away, but doesn't bear close scrutiny. I'm not sure if that's because I'm losing my touch or because I'd just had enough of it by the time I started to paint it.

I've done all the paintwork now, even the fiddly bits, and I've test sprayed one wing with some matt varnish to see if it needs that finish, or some satin varnish instead. Whatever looks best will be sprayed overall, and then I may weather it, if only to hide the rest of the rubbish paint!

I just want it DONE, and off the 'Project List'!  :banghead:

I know the feeling Kit. I have a crate full of kits in that stage. And sometimes I dig one out and restart ir :)
Sometimes you are just not happy with the way a build turns out but on the other hand you don't have the energy to go back and repaint it all.

Building something else (something easy) in the meantime might help.

When the vibe starts to go on a project it's sometimes damn near impossible to get it back ..we've all definitely been there and we still are..ive got probably 4 or 5 builds like that right now ...the apocalyptic chopper transporter is one case in point .
Ever since the Cobras gun just completely disappeared it's been sitting there cause now ive gotta completely scratch build one  :banghead:
