Thanks Scoot. Keeps happening to me, not sure what's  causing it.  I'll try again.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Which is ironic, because the APG A7 photos are fine.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's weird, everything seems to be working now!

If anyone has issues seeing them, Google - autochrome tank.

Were those British Army tanks captured by the Germans and re-used, or copies of the Brit tanks?

Captured examples, which were re-armed with German 57mm guns and mg's. They were the most numerous tanks the German's had and were much prefered by their crews. Something like 100 were used, against 20 A7V's.

The majority of the German's Mk IV's were captured because of mechanical failure.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Thanks Chris, it was all a bit before even MY time.  ;D

The German Beutepanzer kept the British livery, which could be very colorful (with light blue, ochre, green, red-brown and even pink) and quite individual at first. But it was later standardized to an overall khaki/brown tone, together with the wihte-and-red ID markings. As a side note, there's also a picture of German artillery in the lot above, and THIS actually shows German camouflage (yellow-sand, green and brown, often with black contrast lines).

Yep, although most of the bright coloured Mk.Is are thought to have been repainted in more sobre camouflage. The vast majority of captured tanks were Mk.IVs that got a single colour. As you say, this

Yep, although most of the bright coloured Mk.Is are thought to have been repainted in more sobre camouflage and not many captured. The vast majority of captured tanks were Mk.IVs that got a single colour. As you say, this was often a khaki brown, although some may have been grey. This seems to be borne out on the topsides of 'Liesel' above.

There was an attempt by the Germans to copy the layout of the British heavy tanks, the A7V-U. Only one was built, the war ended before it could be put into production.

I'm guessing ammo-racked...and it must have been an earth shattering kaboom.

I would suspect so.

And nice reference.

Here's an Emhar A7V with my take on the colours. Working from some of those autochrome pictures, I picked paints that were more saturated than the photos to allow for weathering and the lack of saturation in the photos.  I might have overdone it a little in hindsight, the colours may be genuinely desaturated but it's difficult to tell.

Those colours don't look too outrageous.
