Quote from: Mossie on February 13, 2025, 01:40:27 AMYour welcome guys.  It'd make an impressive model, fuselage would be over a foot long in 1/72.
Over a foot long ???  :o  :o
In 72nd scale???  :o
Well I'm definitely not going to build this in 35th 😳
It's be bloody massive..even in 48th she's gonna be a big girl too ...but doable  ;)

Yeah, she's a big lass, only about 1/2 metre shorter than a CH-53. It's hard to get a sense of scale with the Westminster for some reason. This photo borrowed from Secret Projects just about does it, the blokes stood close give a good idea of just how big it is.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Those pics Thorvic chucked up show that beautiful off well and that's really pushing me away from the full covered or completely built chopper and more towards the skeletal version...still tho. ...it's a bloody big helicopter.
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Old Wombat

A bit more focus, & a ramp at the back, & it would have been a good competitor to the CH-53 (& CH-54).
Has a life outside of What-If & wishes it would stop interfering!

I've been in and around a CH-53 and that's a big chopper but I'm getting a feeling the Westminster is wider ..it looks wider .

For a late 50s design, that's quite a modern-looking canopy/nose.

Wardukw

Is it me or can ya see similar lines to the Mil 26 HALO  ...strangely I can with the nose and overall lines .

And after all the shennanigens with the Westminster and the Rotodyne, what did they end up with in RAF service?

The Belvedere!  :banghead:  :banghead:  :banghead:
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Old Wombat

Their big miss was a tricycle arrangement for the landing gear & the main gear being in sponsons on the lower fuselage, it's one of the things that makes the CH-53 family so versatile.

Oh, & the ramp, much more useful than clamshell doors!

In those photos of the camouflaged example at the Helicopter Museum she appears to have a couple of suitcases in the forward exposed compartment.......or is it just me ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Gondor

I have just jotted down some figures from part of the Westminsters brochure for the Civil version

Overall Length 86' 9"

Overall Height 18' 4"

Wheel Track 19' 9"

Main Rotor Diameter 72'

Yeah, it would be BIG in 1/72
