Still trying to think of what to do with my 32nd Camel ...zero ideas I'm afraid.

Well there you have it then. IJN early 1920's

Nice.

Another post-war option would be to have the wing in the plain varnished ply that was common on the Fokker transports in the '20s and into the early '30s.You cannot view this attachment.

Uh, that's tough to replicate with paint - at least on such a large area.  :o

Ohhhh you naughty man you 😆 🤣
Fecking love that idea Chris ..if I understand right they were quite brightly colored aircraft..this could get very interesting 🤔 😉
If it aint broke ,,fix it until it is .
Over kill is often very understated .
I know the voices in my head ain't real but they do come up with some great ideas.
Theres few of lifes problems that can't be solved with the proper application of a high explosive projectile .

Well, my suggestion would be a Siam/Royal Thai Air Force aircraft? Would be plausible and look... different.

Sounds very interesting indeed Thomas that's for damn sure..not sure how'd I go with the decals tho...Japanese for sure..simple red circles
Royal Thai Air Force ..no idea what at all 😆

I think the early Thai/Siam aircraft had either flags on their wings and tail rudders, or red squares with a white elephant on wings and fin.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Yup they had the flags on their wings and rudders until 1941'ish. I think the elephant markings were used when they were Allied to the Japanese post 1941 ? The roundels came in post War.

That's why woodgrain decals exist.

Well, you can do it with wet-in-wet brush painting, but the large area makes it quite a challenge. Or you mask sections, what might even add to a "natural" look. I tried such a stunt some moons ago on a modded He 162, yet only with singular areas:

1:72 Heinkel He 162 C-0 (P.1073); 1st prototype "Musterflugzeug 48/VN+DA" (s/n 390635), Deutsche Luftwaffe; Salzburg (Austria), during flight trials, May 1945 (Whif/Luft '46/Hobby Boss kit conversion)

Yep, I'm aware of the technique. The late Terry Moore (braincells37) was a master of the art.

That 162 looks very good Dizzy. I've just taken the AZ kit of the 162-C from the "stalled" part of my build area and one of the options offered is the prototype with un-painted wings. Needless to say I won't be doing that one
