The biggest problem I've come across with paint is they don't scale em ...they make the paint from what ever came to hand at the time ...like Humbrol found and Azure blue painted plane ..it looked clean and tidy so they took the colour sample from it but then didn't scale it down like the manufacturers of model paints do today .
So when ya try painting something 72 times smaller the colours not right .
I had that problem with Olive Drab ...Tamiyas don't match Humbrols ..fact when you looked at pictures, Humbrols OD looked like the pics, yet the pics ain't correct either .
I built that Trumpeter 24th scale Hurricane..not a good model and the decals are terrible...the colours my mate wanted was the Med scheme..Azure blue undersides...couldn't even get close to it colour wise ..I ended up mixing paints to get something close ..buggered if it was close with my eyes but he was chuffed ..so all good ☺️

Yeah, that's what it's all about, if it looks right, it IS right.

You've got your hands full with that one! I think I would have to get as close as I could and just go with it. If anyone wants to give you grief about it tell them to build their own version.

BTW, I have the old Revell box scale Martin B-57 in the stash and I might just have to get a couple of Airfix Spitfires or Mustangs for the engines and see what happens. Contra props would be da bomb!

To use one of  my fave phrases, 'Also available in blue'.  ;D

I managed to mix three batches that look pretty much the same, so it's all painted up now. No masking required, magic stuff.

It may JUST make the big NEC Show on Saturday, with luck.

And "close enough" is a perfect phrase as well for Petter Blue

It's a tad 'bluer' than PRU Blue and a bit less grey.

I mixed it from Hataka Sea Grey Medium with a few drops of their Oxford Blue, worked a treat.

I LOVE it when a plan comes together.  ;D

The Dalgety's varnished and got most of its decals on now too, but not the serials as I still haven't figured out how to do those HUGE underwing ones. My ideas may have to change on that front as the outer radiators may prevent the full size serials being used, but we'll see. Oddly it seems that VN799 didn't carry any wing roundels at all, just the fuselage ones and the fin flashes, very strange and I wonder why.

The props are now all painted and I'm working on the landing gear, using the Airfix B6 wheels/tyres and the Reskit doors. I may have them painted and some fitted tonight, but otherwise tomorrow.

It looks very 'odd', even to me, with those yellow tips on its 5 bladed props when the rest of it looks JUST like a Canberra!  :o

Maybe the RAF couldn't find the correct size of transfer either...  ;)

That looks really good, Kit.

#174
And it's FINISHED!

Almost anyway, it doesn't have it's fuselage or underwing serials on yet because finding the right size and style isn't easy, but I'm getting there slowly, and they're almost impossible to see from a normal view.

Getting the gear doors on was a real pain, the main doors, the ones mounted on the gear legs, have to be SEVERELY modified from the standard Airfix shape as they're not designed to fit the white metal SAC legs of course, and their upper ends won't fit the Griffon nacelles either, but they're on now. The Reskit doors aren't too easy to attach either as they're designed for the newer Airfix kits, but half a, pound of superglue does a good job.  ;D

It'll need a small amount of paint trimming later, but right now it's good enough to show you the 'finished article' I reckon.

So here's the EE Dalgety, the 'alternative Canberra', powered by two RR V12 Griffons rather than the two Avon turbojets on the corresponding Canberra.

The lack of the jet exhausts is only too obvious from the rear, the Griffon's nacelles ending some feet forward of the trailing edge.

Here's the Fantasy Printshop decals which I had such a problem applying. They're very good once they're on, but they're NOT easy to apply!

What it's all about, the two mighty V12 Grffons taking the place of the Avons. Note their positioning before you read the backstory in the 'Alternative History' section, linked at the end of this post.

The underside view showing the radiators, otherwise it looks just like a Canberra.  ;D Later the MONSTER white serials will dominate the view of course.

The backstory is here, but it'll take a while to read though. https://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php?topic=53841.new#new

Rheged

I've put this forward as a Whiffie contender.   It's unusual as a Kit-built aircraft WITHOUT longer wings!
