hi all
here is my attempt to make a bubble canopy hellcat.
the model is from hasegawa...the canopy is from the jug but Im not happy with this solution and its possible I will make an own.
the engine, crankcase and prop is from hasegawas late corsair.

Very Very nice Hellcaterbolt or whatever ur going to call it..  Looks really sweet with the bubble but might I suggest adding a fin fillet to make up for the loss of the fuselage structure??

On second thoughts, it looks like a pretty buffed up Bearcat????

hi
I tested the fin fillet on my 1/72 "test aircraft"....it looked not good for me...#
I will rework the vertical tail and make it something higher...
the four blade prop looks awesome ...much better as on the corsair :)
best regards
Peter

Peter,

I agree, the four-blader does look quite nice.  A taller tail will certainly do the job also.  What do you expect the scheme to be?  Overall Dark Sea Blue or the earlier 3-tone job?

Just a thought, Peter.... A spinner would make it look even more dramatic. I know of course that the USN rarely used them, but somewhere I've seen a photo of the prototype F6F-3 with a spinner on a three-blade prop and it looked superb.

Like I say, just a thought. Keep posting the photos, bitte.

Grumman flew an F6F with an upgraded engine & 4 blade prop. I've seen a pic of it somewhere, maybe one of Green's books.

Very cool!  This is my favorite what if of all.  In fact it was my first post I put up here.  I built mine using a Skyraider canopy and the god awful Heller kit.  I posted a pic of mine for your inspiration.

Very nice work :D

By the way...the F6F-6 were the two prototypes with the 4 bladed props. B)

Beautiful work as usual Peter. Speaking of Hellcats, any news on the Japanese version?

I know about the f6f6....but the engine alone was not enough to make the craft better than the superrior corsair...
by the way....the next hellcat will be one with an...inline engine :)

Maybe an R-4360 would do it  B)  like an XP-72

I especially like the idea of you making some bubble canopies.
I have, um, need for a few (Morsair, Sentinel...etc.).
Do you make customized canopies for a fee?   ;)
