My One Week Build projects will be a MiG-3 float plane and a Soviet Hurricane. Here are the boxes prior to starting.

I thought that I'd have to wait until today to begin but I managed to begin on Saturday. This is the Hurricane. Inspired by my Spanish Hurricane I'm using another Airfix 1/72  Mk II from the stash. This is the basic airframe assembled and the undercarriage bays blanked off.

And this is the Hurricane with the u/c and cockpit in place, ready for painting. In real life, the Soviets left their Hurricanes pretty much in RAF colours and just painted red stars over the roundels. However, this is going to be much more colourful, based on the well known photograph of the red and white MiG-3 "02" of the 12th Guards IAP (and no, I don't believe that the outer wing panels were really green!)

Here is the MiG-3 with the wheel wells filled and the floats taken from the PM Spitfire. The Hobby Boss MiG-3 is a wonderful little kit and can be assembled in minutes.

And here's the first float fitted.

Finally for just now, here's the MiG-3 waiting for its canopy but otherwise ready for painting.

Wow a MiG-3 floatplane! Whoda thunk it? Excellent McG! I can;t wait to see more!

Weren't they actually bright red, and the cowling was grey rather than bare metal? or am I thinking of another famous fight over a black and white pic of a Russian plane?

I invite all and any criticism, except about Eric The Dog, it's not his fault he's stupid

Impossible to prove one way or another at this distance in time but, yes, this would be my interpretation of the photograph.

And I probably shouldn't let it get to me, but the next person who comes up to me at a model show to tell me that I've painted the wings of my MiG-3 the wrong colour had better have checked out his life insurance policy first - - -

Great work! I like the feel of the whole set up. B)

Thanks everyone.

The Hurricane, which was a last minute addition to this build, is now substantially painted (see below) while the MiG-3, which was supposed to be the main subject of the build, has only just had its first base coat of green (no photo yet) because I had problems (my fault, not the kit) fitting the canopy. Still everything now seems to be back on track.

McGreig

The painting of the MiG-3 has now begun. The patchiness of the dark green is exaggerated by the photo and will disappear when the varnish is applied. Also, some white winter camouflage has yet to be applied. The underside will be light blue.

The Hurricane continues to make better progress than the MiG-3. However, looking at it after removing the masking tape, I think that there is too much red, so I've masked of the rudder and will respray the fin white. Apart from that I'm fairly happy with it.
