Thanks Steve.
The blades are styrene.  Only the cowlings are PVC.  I am hopeful my usual primer will stick on if they are sanded to key up the surface.
Future worked on the fan blades - yay!
I must stop using a thin red texter to mark parts.
Put more paint on the fans today and scribed some lines in the fan cowlings.  When the filler has dried and been sanded back i'll have another go and this time get them straight...
Cockpit is now painted so I can start to assemble the thing.

I use a pencil, the plastic kind with the refillable lead. Easy to wipe off....sometimes too easy lol

I use either a mechanical pencil or ultra-fine black Sharpie.  And there's always map markers, which do clean up with isopropyl alcohol.  I've used them on laminated maps.

I have pencils on my desk but they always need sharpening.
The texters you linked to Scooter are the ones I use.  But i've never tried wiping them off with anything.  I sand/scrape the ink off or paint over it.

Glued the cockpit floor into the fuselage today and successfully re-scribed panels on the cowlings.

Tried using a black sharpie for some fine detail the other day but it has a blue/purple'ish sheen ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Some do, others don't, others have a reddish tinge.  And it also depends on the surface you are drawing on.  On matt paint it tends to look blacker.

I used a black Sharpie on the Revell Hawk Missile system to detail the fins of the missiles.  Then sprayed some Testors Matt and the black ran all over the white paint.  Needless to say I had to repaint the missiles but worked out in the end.

I will continue to use the red texter as I have just found out that metho will wipe them off.  Thanks Scooter.  Wish i'd thought of that.

Phil - sometimes you can get away with clearing over texter (sharpie) but there are a lot of factors like is it permanent? White Board? Acrylic clear?  Enamel?  On matt paint?
Test it first on scrap and even then sneak up on it with light coats rather than dumping on one heavy one - i.e. treat it like decals.

Continued gluing the 189 together.  Fuselage to lower wing centre section today.  PSR will be required as either the fit is rubbish or (more likely) I trimmed too heavily.  The kit is designed so you work outwards from the fuselage and can't jump ahead as you might then get alignment or fit issues.
There is a triangular vertical thing behind the pilot's seat which today I knocked loose for the third time.
Almost finished scratchbuilding the rear seater's camera today (long lens, large format film, telescopic sight, shoulder stock).
Painted the fan cowlings with my usual primer.  It looks to have stuck to the PVC.

Booms, wings (what's left of them) and fuselage all glued into one unit.  Blanking plates glued onto where I cut the wings off which will need trimming to shape and then the fan mountings building onto them.
Managed not to knock off the triangular thing behind the pilots seat today.

I was flying it round the bench today and it struck me that it looks more like a submersible than a plane.

A touch of filler today and some odds and ends of styrene to add interest around the cowling mounts.
I was going to start on the tail fan but I got interrupted.

Well, there you go! If you ever get tired of it as a plane you just need to slap on a new coat of paint, chuck on a few nautical decals & Bob's yer sister!
