Old railway ferry ? The type the trains used to drive onto ? Yes I am old enough to remember the passenger ones. The freight ones lasted a lot longer

Maybe a little smaller but definitely  similar.  I'm thinking paddle steamer for the shallower draft .

From what I found out, doing the research for my back story on the Skua,  that may be a lot better than what they actually had.
