could the spitfire airframe have accepted the vulture engine?

As Wooksta says, the Vulture was wider than the Merlin and Griffon.

It was 35.8" wide x 42.175" high x 87.625" long. So 5-6" wider than a Merlin or Griffon, and between the two for height.

The real problem is that it was ~800lb heavier than a 2 stage Merlin and ~500lb heavier than a 2 stage Griffon.

I have successfully mounted a Merlin with a chin radiator (from a  Lancaster...) onto an Fw 190 airframe. This worked and looked fine!

Just because it's gorgeous, the Silver Spifire, which is on an around the world flight.

There is no such thing as an ugly Spitfire.

ive recently been ispired by parasol wing fighters, and i was thinking of building a parasol-wing version of the spitfire in an early 1930's style, with a Focke Wulf Fw.56 style landinggear.

ivebeen thinking of calling it the Supermarine Sprite or Sylph

I actually like both of them, the Jumo Spitfire especially.
