Quote from: Old Wombat on August 21, 2022, 08:38:20 AMOh, & the fact that every time I log on I have to change it off of the 'Stay logged on' "1 hour" default to the "forever" that I prefer, & I can't see a way to lock in my preference.

You only need to do that once per device though - right? Why would you need log on forever, multiple times?

No, multiple times per device, because I do log off after each session but a session could last from 10 minutes to 16 hours & I don't want to have to log in multiple times during a (more frequent) long session.

By having "forever" as my default (which I could on the old system) I don't have to think about how long I'm going to be on. I just log on when I start & log off when I finish. Simples!

Make sure spell check is on within the Chrome browser, and also check the spell check settings within your
computer's operating system. Either one will take care of spell check needs.

Thinking of the spellchecker. Providing one with the forum would presumably have provided a uniform language locale across the forum; Yanks and Limeys both offered only the Kiwi spelling, or whatever. But if it relies on the user's web browser, then every poster can live in their own little world and have different spellings suggested to them, perhaps even auto-"corrected". Is this anything that either readers or admins should care two hoots about? maybe life is just too short....
Cheers.

Why would you log off after a session. I never do....

No idea why you would want to log off every time, but I've changed the default logon time to "forever" to accommodate this use case.

OK tech-heads.  Why does Safari (running in Mojave 10.14.6) refuse to open this forum?
Immediately after the  upgrade it did so as per normal.
Then from the next day it refused giving me a "can't connect to the server" messgage.
I have checked all the settings in Safari (none of which I had changed) and can see nothing that looks to me that it would be blocking connection.

Firefox and Chrome both connect OK (this is using chrome now).

It probably comes from working for various security conscious companies & government agencies for such a long time, where you're required to log off every time you're out of sight of the computer, that it's become my personal default setting. ;)

Thank you!

Chrome gives suggestions when you right click an underlined word:

Chrome also gives full control over spellcheck options:

Yes indeed. An open session is an insecure session. That's less of a problem in these days of https, but I still like to close the door on my way out, and always will.
Cheers.

All seems good with the upgrade, much clearer text.

IIRC mention was made some time ago of a 'save draft' option for posts.  Did that happen or not?  asking as i can't yet find where the option sits.

Apparently I had to turn on drafts feature. Done now! It keeps them 7 days, and will autosave your post. Drafts can be found in your profile:

Edge doesn't 'pass through' to a spell checker.

And before you all get on my case, I've tried Chrome and Safari and all those others and don't get on with ANY of them, so I'm stuck with Edge. At least I know what it does and how to handle it.

Apart from spell checking here of course........

Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Spell checker would be great, especially for our UK friends who don't know how to say or spell aluminum.  ;)
