Receive forum newsletters, announcements and important notifications by email.

Enabling this default option violates the rules of the GDPR and many other countries' privacy and anti-spam laws.

It looks like everyone has to opt in to notifications now. The overall setting is disabled by default.

How many sins are committed in the GPDR's name? (sigh)

I bet the address list of my friends here contravenes 3 or 4 of their rules.....................
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

"If enabled, notify me of personal messages from:" ...
And choice of Alert and Email.

Thanks, that was what I was looking for but could not find.

That makes sense. For any of us to opt for any notification we are saying that we understand the risks involved. Or something like that.

GDPR?  I had to goggle it.  I thought it was German Democratic People's Republic.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

You and me both. Yet another reason I'm glad I retired long before the World changed  ;)

Well the changes have worked, now the timeing of the email is only a day or so behind receiving the message  :-\

At least it does work, abet slowly

Nick

I don't know what happened last night but from about 8pm the site refused to be found using the address I had bookmarked. I assumed it was another software update and left it but it wasn't working this morning. Today I did a Google search and got in directly through that.

I've now replaced the address in my Bookmark and it lets me in, but using the basic www.whatifmodellers.com didn't. Weird.

That one just worked for me OK.

whatifmodelers (with one "l") is now something else. I get a site with some whifs and some totally other things.

The 'single l' site was the result of a hacking job on us some years ago.

Quite a number of older threads here link back to that as a result, and whenever I find one mine linked through to it, I change my old thread to correct it.

Not correct. The hacking wasn't connected to the domain change - I registered whatifmodellers.com when it seemed whatifmodelers.com waa going to expire, then we had both for a year, and Tom decided to not pay to renew the original name (whatifmodelers.com).

Paul it appears some members are not seeing the "Save Draft" button when making a reply to a post. They are just getting Preview and Post. Any reason you can think of ?

I only see Preview and Post, on Firefox / Windows 10.

When I look at the HTML that the browser shows me, I only see code for those buttons in the (span)

You cannot view this attachment.

Okay - I fixed a problem that was causing some people to have trouble connecting to the forum from saved bookmarks etc.

The  configuration for HTTP port 80 (not secure) was only present for the IPV6 address, so many people without IPV6 support would have been unable to connect via insecure HTTP.to port 80.

Chrome masks this problem by silently redirecting you to the HTTPS Port 443 (secure) without really telling you what is happening. Not all browsers behave the same way, and if you saved the bookmark years ago it was probably back when the site didn't have a certificate.

I've tested it and it should now work fine  in all circumstances on all browsers.
